If you’re interested in learning more about intertidal biodiversity in #BostonHarbor AND about supporting disabled students & scholars through adaptation of field methods, I’ll be speaking on this for the Stone Living Lab’s seminar series on April 16th at 2pm! #disabledinSTEM url-shortener.me/K85N
A memory from today, five years ago. Still one of my favorite photos. #marinelife #barnaclebabies #competition
Next week REEF is hosting Oceans For All, Exploring Diverse Experiences in Marine Conservation panel. As a disabled scholar I’ll be bringing perspective on disability & accessibility in ocean/coastal science. Check out the other awesome panelists too! #disabledinstem us06web.zoom.us/meeting/regi...
Working on a prez I’m giving @ Roger Williams about adapting field methods for better species detections & adapting field plans to be more inclusive of disabled scientists, & disability/accessibility in field work, while hooked up to IV infusion for my own (invisible)disability lol #disabledinSTEM
Do any of my #algae friends have an idea on the ID of this? Smooth and slimy to touch. Def not Gracilaria sp. #phycologyfriday
My electricBlue intertidal chamber finally made it state side! Can’t wait to put this cutie together and put it to use this season!
#phycologyfriday I love algae and invertebrates, and many inverts love algae, just like me!! #fucus check out the algae appreciation starter pack below!
A week since my defense, I couldn’t be more grateful. I am WAY less stressed than I have been the last two months lol. Good timing for the holidays. So grateful for my committee, colleagues, friend & family. The folks in this photo, my Boston harbor crew, love them so much. Onward & yonward!
Amongst the chaos that is finishing a PhD (defense is t minus 24 days) there is beauty in nature. Trying to not let myself be super stressed & to make time to recenter/ground myself so I can stay healthy (Crohn’s/MS loves stress), continue to be a good parent, friend, & colleague. #almostPhinisheD
Hi! I'm Aly, an ECR marine ecologist focusing on impacts of climatechange on marine invertebrates & algae physiology, with a focus on invasive species. I'm passionate about science/academic equity & accessibility. I'm also a mom & first-gen college goer living w Crohn’s disease & Multiple Sclerosis.
Join me and Grace Casselberry this week as part of #fieldinclusiveweek! We will be talking about disability & creating accessibility into field research protocol! We are going to talk about why inclusion of #disabledinSTEM is important & action to support & create more accessible spaces for success
#invertfest On field work, at the end of the day I was going back to my 9th floor room and saw a shadow under the bathroom door. I was scared someone broke in. With pepper spray in hand, I opened the bathroom door to find a hitchhiker from earlier fieldwork #hemigrapsus 😮💨😂🦀 glad it wasn’t a killer 😂
