I have an aquarium with a surface environment which means every now and then you get to see aquatic creatures briefly leave the water, and I always find it so surreal! Like somebody jumping out of the tv screen. You’re not supposed to be in this plane of existence!

I always think it’s especially pretty at this stage!

The tiny crayfish mostly come out at night. Mostly.

I don’t think this is particularly remarkable behavior I just think it was pretty.

Checked the water table after dark and found a little male platy resting in the shallowest water possible, almost breaking the surface, with its belly on the stone underneath. Seems like a vulnerable place for a fish to be, but it’s very painterly!

I dunno, Whole Foods. If your food really doesn’t have any sodium in it then I’m not sure it’s actually food.

I’ve found it to be an ideal environment for dwarf Mexican crayfish. Shrimp do well but they instantly disappear forever. The only fish that thrive are hardy, ugly little livebearers. The temperature swings are too big for most.
