She/her. Dr of digiarch, ethics, archaeology, and archaeogaming. I restore old houses, write for games, and talk a lot about my dogs and about tacos. On the job market! ORCiD: 0000-0002-3109-4555 FKA: Gingerygamer Web: meghandennis.com
Feel free to use this chance to #AskAnArchaeologist about video games and how we work with digital media! (Below is a tiny bit of my current thought exercise game on community and archaeological ownership.)
I’m…having trouble keeping up with new followers. If you follow me, we’ve met in person, and I don’t follow you back right away, let me know! The signal-to-noise is overwhelming. As an apology, here is a picture of my puppy wearing a Santa hat. He is also overwhelmed.
And this was the shield upon which the deceased was laid, within the chariot.
Are you in Oregon? Do you like art? My former student Han has a show starting and is giving a talk this weekend. Han was in my first cohort of students when I first started teaching, and I adore them. Please show your support in person if you can!
Proving once again that Yorkshire is the most beautiful place to live. This is all naked eye visible.
My workout routine is lifting and carrying a 50 lb Aussie/Border Collie up a flight of steep wooden stairs multiple times a day. Extra workout points when she decides halfway up to thrash about. (I would die for her, and might, the way she wriggles.)
Today’s hot takes brought to you by waiting for a plumber in an empty, radiator-less house in the cold north of England.
Here’s @inklestudios.bsky.social saying the quiet part about museums out loud… 🏺
We just started year 4 of our Wildemount campaign. I love our little idiots. Art by the amazing @amasugiru.bsky.social, who is also our VERY patient DM.
Day 1 of 2024 was redeemed by a visit to the Devil’s Arrows and St John the Baptist Church, Kirk Hammerton. (We covered our theological bases…) The stones were awe-inspiring, and the church hit the sweet spot - Saxon tower and Art Nouveau heading into Arts and Crafts frescoes.
I like to be the last one up on Christmas. I sit in the dark and quiet with the tree and listen to the small sounds of my family asleep nearby. I think about the day, and about those we’ve lost who used to spend this day with us. I let myself feel the full measure of how much I miss and love them.
Timeline joy, these are my dogs in little coats on the beach. We all got sandy and sea-sprayed and it was fantastic. Also, I found an ammonite (not pictured).
Today in, “Weird Things I Found Online While Attempting to Restore a House” is this door knocker. Yes, that is the entry to King’s Manor, which houses the Department of Archaeology 🏺 at the University of York.
I’ve been meeting my ArchWriMo 🏺word counts the last few days (1000 words a day across three articles), but it’s a struggle.
Oof, professional norms and behaviors. You just put out the Bat-Signal for me.
I’m much more of a sea witch than a harvest witch, but still, these are my children, my little babies, my autumn kiddos, my perfect pumpkins, my good gourds, my sweet squashes, and I love them.
I’m still struggling through a cold, but I’m excited to have this to read while I rest !
I literally just had the worst taco I’ve ever had in my life. I…can’t even explain all the ways it was bad. I will give you this pictorial example, however. This is what they said was “guacamole”. Reader, it is not. It is a cup of lime-scented, avocado-colored, piss-water sauce.
We’re looking at canine cranial cruciate ligament surgery #3. But your dog only has two CLs, Meghan! What can I say, my boy is gifted. (As in, he has gifted me with another multi-thousand pound bill.) Check out those expensive legs!
The image in my profile is The Great Hall, a wallpaper designed by Dan Funderburgh and available at Flavor Paper. It’s based on the Met’s collections. I like to play, “How many of these pieces are looted,” with it. It narrowly lost out being installed in my new office.
I am a supportive colleague, work well under pressure and with tight deadlines, don’t cross picket lines, and always stand my round at the pub, even when I’m not drinking. Hire me!
10 minutes on here and I’m talking about tacos and the rampant inequalities in the heritage sector. I missed you all so much. Just to make it even more like home, here are my dogs.
Begin as you mean to go on, I suppose. So… Is your labor valued? Is your time valued? Are your rights protected? Are you unionized?
