Author “How Schools Work” Managing Partner @ChicagoCRED- we are committed to achieving a transformative reduction in gun violence. We work so children can play.
I love our annual tradition of having our @chicagocred.bsky.social interns get together with John Rogers’ Ariel Investments interns! An amazingly smart, thoughtful, diverse, idealistic group of college students who want to make the world a better place. They inspire me, and give me lots of hope!
@chicagocred.bsky.social we work so that children can play. And, we work so our staff can play as well!
Work for peace Walk for peace March for peace Fight relentlessly for peace @chicagocred.bsky.social
Rain or shine, hot or cold, day in and day out, our Peacekeepers walk some of Chicago’s most violent blocks, working to build trust, peace and unity. @chicagocred.bsky.social
We have a long way to go, and we aren’t satisfied. But, we are so grateful that Chicago’s violence was reduced by more than 50% this July 4th holiday weekend, & we had exactly zero shootings in the four south and west neighborhoods @chicagocred.bsky.social serves. I so appreciate all the hard work!
Unfortunately, in places like Chicago, the holidays are often a time of increased violence, not peace. We have to stay present in communities, deescalate any conflicts, and do our best to keep everyone safe. @chicagocred.bsky.social
Thank you! There is so much strength in vulnerability. There is so much power to help so many others in telling your own story.
We always try to meet people where they are- that’s the best way to start to build trust. More often than not, that’s on a street corner. @chicagocred.bsky.social
@chicagocred.bsky.social we constantly teach, and preach, nonaggression. How to deescalate conflicts, how to control your emotions, how to not give away your power to act to others- these are all the skills that can literally be the difference between life and death.
What is the job of our Peacekeepers? To deescalate conflicts in the streets To recruit the participants who most need our services into our programming To relentlessly engage with those most at risk of shooting, or being shot To demonstrate that those closest to the problem are actually the solution
The Obama Presidential Center has officially passed Disneyland as the happiest place on earth! If you need some hope & inspiration, if you have forgotten what it’s like to be around a wonderful- & wonderfully diverse- group of people, please come visit. I promise you, it will be good for your soul.
So appreciate Senator Durbin coming out to the community to support our collective work, and spending so much time talking with everyone! So much of leadership is simply showing up and being present. @chicagocred.bsky.social
Ayo just signed a massive new long term contract with the Twolves- so incredibly proud of the leader he is, both on and off the court! When we have something going on in the community, he is always there- a Chicago boy who loves giving back to our hometown.
Loved working with some of Chicago’s best female HS hoopers today- their heart, work ethic and love of the game were a joy to see!
So incredibly fun to be able to spend time on Father’s Day with my daughter, reading a classic to young children together!
