29 bi and vegetarian. painting every day till i die
#hobbystreak Day 2180: used some purple speedpaint to push the carapace towards the shade I want. A second coat should finish the job. I prefer using regular acrylics over speedpaints for ease of replication, but since I'd have to mix something up anyway there's no advantage to that.
#hobbystreak Day 2179: painted the rest of the carapace the dark purple. It's not far off what I'd like it's just a bit too desaturated I think
#hobbystreak Day 2178: painted the very annoying ribs (tricky location + hard to get in the gaps!) a second coat of blue. May need to bust out my wet palette to help with my paints drying out as I paint each large section. Especially since I might use a mix for the carapace
#hobbystreak Day 2177: tried two quick coats of a darker purple on the main segment of carapace, first one was meant to be more of a glaze and ended up a wash so it's a bit patchy. Will try to find a slightly lighter, more vibrant purple to use
#hobbystreak Day 2176: second layer of purple done, will see how it dries but probably going to darken it down a good bit
#hobbystreak Day 2175: painted the carapace purple. First shade I chose was far too bright so I swiftly abandoned that and went for a much darker one. It's still a bit lighter than I'd like but a second coat might help, otherwise I'll leave this as the highlight colour and darken it elsewhere
#hobbystreak Day 2174: thinned down layer of blue on the ribbed areas and the cannon. Had a surprising amount of difficulty getting it in between the ribs. This isn't quite the right blue but it'll work for now
#hobbystreak Day 2173: quick layer of red contrast paint over the main fleshy sections. It's blending nicely with the blue underneath on the raised areas but it's a bit inconsistent in spots and the dark areas are maybe a bit too black for my tastes
#hobbystreak Day 2172: drybrushed the top of the model a bit more lightly with a light blue grey. Tried to hit some of the more prominent parts of the under areas too. A little daunted by how much work painting this will be!
#hobbystreak Day 2171: gave my arm a bit of a workout by heavily drybrushing the entire exocrine blue grey. I'll do another lighter layer along the top and some of the more protruding under areas, just didn't want it to be too dark beneath
#hobbystreak Day 2170: keeping it simple today, primed the exocrine. Had some more basing ideas that aren't what I'd originally envisioned but might look good. Want to do something a bit different from the mud and blood of my last few
#hobbystreak Day 2169: spent some time hacking away at foam to try and make the start of a little concealed emplacement for the exocrine. It feels like the claws get in the way and it's not working. I think I'd probably need a bigger base or adjust the model. Might just try to make it look overgrown
#hobbystreak Day 2168: moving onto the exocrine for now. Filled in a few more gaps, then glued it down on the base for a sec to mark where it'll go. I want to make the model look like it's emerging from hiding in a swamp or a hill but might just be a bit tough. I'll keep it off the base to start
#hobbystreak Day 2167: highlighted and tinted the frills on the dog, then highlighted the blue parts of its skin. When I looked at the model with the lights low the dog was a bit muddy and hard to make out. I also did some highlights on the armour and bronze sections of the lord. May call it here
Feels absolutely bizarre seeing all the glowing tributes to him and then seeing this part of his wikipedia page
#hobbystreak Day 2166: bit of work on the dog to try make it stand out more. Picked out the eyes, highlighted the frills around the neck, the face and the little bumps/spikes on the skin
#hobbystreak Day 2165: did some soft highlighting on the red armour sections and the back of the cloak. Not quite sure if I want to call it done yet, dog might need a little more work to make it pop
There was a similar one between the Netherlands and the Isles of Scilly that lasted for 335 years. Seems like small municipalities just love declaring war on things
#hobbystreak Day 2164: painted three layers on the various skulls, tan to re-establish the brighter areas, buff to make them a good level of brightness and then a mix of buff and white on some of the raised edges, particularly on the skull helmet (forgot to post this here last night)
#hobbystreak Day 2163: darkened the sash down a good bit and then got distracted by trying to get some smooth highlights on the cape, think I've done well enough to be happy with it
#hobbystreak Day 2162: lots of shading today, mostly just painting washes into the recesses. Tried to dull down the sash since it's a tad too bright, may need a layer to take it down a notch. Next up will probably be touchups and the skulls
#hobbystreak Day 2161: Tried to paint a dot pattern on the gauntlet like a poison frog but I didn't like how it looked so I painted back over it and just did some shading and highlighting
#hobbystreak Day 2160: Painted the sash red and made some little cobblestone sections to use on a base someday
#hobbystreak Day 2159: fully assembled the exocrine. May pop back to the Khorne lord before I try basing this, also have a small terrain project in mind that I could take a stab at
#hobbystreak Day 2158: still feeling the impact of the world cup on my sleep schedule, put together 4 limbs and glued 2 in. Have a grand idea for the base but not sure I'll be able to pull it off. It also might not be big enough
#hobbystreak Day 2157: assembled and glued on some vents and then spent some time filling in the gaps in the centre of the model with sprue glue. Covered up a little detail in spots, getting used to using it properly
#hobbystreak Day 2156: taking a brief break from the Khorne lord to start putting this haruspex model together that has been lingering in a box for nearly 6 years
#hobbystreak Day 2155: tried adding a lighter layer and some shadows to the cape, not a fan of how abrupt the transitions are, wish it was a bit smoother but it'll do. I struggle a lot with layering because I really dislike having visible transitions between layers but I'm not great at blending
#hobbystreak Day 2154: dulled down the highlights on the dog a little, painted the gauntlet and faffed about mixing up paints and blending and whatnot on the cape. Not sure I like the colour but I can always do more faffing
#hobbystreak Day 2153: some quick highlights to the blue sections on the dog, will maybe darken that down. Also started painting the claw gauntlet blue too, going to try make it look a bit crab-like, similar to how some people paint nids
