ICYMI, SpaceX performed 207,000 collision avoidance maneuvers of its Starlink satellites from 1 Dec 2025 to 31 May 2026, per a filing with the FCC, meaning it is on track for close to 500,000 maneuvers in 2026 (up from about 300,000 in 2025).
Such a weirdly fun totality path, starting in Russia, crossing Greenland and Iceland, and ending in Spain. Space shadows are cool
Would love to know if there's anyone living in this remote part of northern Russia that might see the start of the 12 August eclipse next week.
All the best to anyone watching next week's eclipse in Spain. Think we might try seeing one of the upcoming four eclises in Australia too, maybe in 2028 or 2030.
Just booked accommodation for the 2 August 2027 total solar eclipse! This will be our third eclipse, but first outside the US. Will be watching it from a villa in the hills of Southern Spain (roughly where the pin is below). Can't wait!

A nice paper by @asborlaff.bsky.social showing that launching telescopes to space doesn't necessarily solve the light pollution issue from satellites. These are satellite trails seen by NASA's SPHEREx space telescope, which appear in 73% of all its images. Eek. arxiv.org/abs/2605.27501

This coming Saturday it will be the 7th anniversary of the first Starlink launch on 23 May 2019. At the time there were 2,000 (yes, just 2,000) active satellites in space, per @planet4589.bsky.social. Now there are more than 15,000, two-thirds of which are Starlink. Happy... birthday?
Went to a Michelin-starred restaurant in Bangkok yesterday (Potong) and this was the pad thai. Pretty impressive.
Only starting using this Google feature recently but it's super useful, especially as I'm in Bangkok so a very diff time zone. Only shows bookable slots when I have nothing in my calendar (I block out time for sleep, kids bedtime, etc). Can also create custom schedules for specific days.
Saw the Great Wall of China today. Can confirm it was pretty great.
