American Atheists
@atheists
Breaking down barriers. Ending stigma. Promoting understanding. Fighting for church-state separation. Representing atheists in America.
In the Oval Office, Trump's Religious Liberty Commission chair, Texas Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick, called the separation of church & state the "biggest lie that's been told in America." After reading their report, we beg to differ. Join us Monday for a town hall to break it down. atheists.org/RLC-townhall
We already knew Donald Trump's Christian Nationalist speechwriters have never read the Constitution, so why would the Declaration be any different?
A disgusting erasure of millions of nonreligious Americans by the White Christian Nationalists who have hijacked our government.
And when we see our government — and our history — being hijacked by the White Christian Nationalist movement, you'd better believe we dissent.
There's nothing more American than the separation of religion from government. Happy Independence Day! 🎇🎆
Choosing to quote Leviticus for ANYTHING, let alone to support the principle of liberty, over the plain language of the Constitution or the writings of the founders, is deeply disturbing and a clear expression of the White Christian Nationalism taking over our government.
"[T]he same authority which can establish Christianity, in exclusion of all other Religions, may establish with the same ease any particular sect of Christians, in exclusion of all other sects." — James Madison
We're relieved at the outcome of today's birthright citizenship decision, but the fact that there were 4 votes to ignore the plain language of the Constitution is appalling. The White Christian Nationalist movement will keep coming for our rights and we have to act to stop them.
The only people seemingly trying to close churches are the corrupt, hypocritical leaders of the White Christian Nationalist movement. Alienating and grifting their members by covering up child abuse, excusing and encouraging masked thugs to rip families apart, and lining their own pockets.
While it might be more convenient for White Christian Nationalists like Pete Hegseth to pretend that atheists don't exist, simply repeating the lie doesn't make it true.
No matter how hard these extremists try, they will never succeed in writing us out of our history or silencing us. Atheist soldiers, sailors, airmen, marines, and guardians are patriots committed to protecting our nation and our Constitution. It’s a shame we can’t say the same thing about Hegseth.
Never let anyone tell you you can't be exactly who you are. Happy Pride Month to all of our LGBTQ+ members, supporters, allies, partners, and loved ones. We'll never stop fighting for a more just, more inclusive world. ♥️🧡💛💚💙💜
They're trying to turn our country into a White Christian ethno-state. Where if you are the "wrong" race or the "wrong" religion, you are a second class citizen. We won't let them.
"Who we are" is One Nation, Indivisible. Christian Nationalists are trying to destroy that. To divide us. To say who is — and isn't — American enough. This is a nation of Christians and atheists, Jews and Buddhists, Muslims and Hindus, Sikhs and Bahá'í. And Christian Nationalism is un-American.
The Trump Administration's Department of Education just released new "guidance" about prayer and religious expression in public schools. Our legal director's view? It's bad. It's ridiculous. It's absurd. And it's exactly what we should expect from the White Christian Nationalist movement.
240 years after Jefferson’s Virginia Statute was enacted, Christian Nationalists want you to think religious freedom is a privilege just for them. We're setting the record straight: It's always been for all of us. In honor of National Religious Freedom Day, support our work at atheists.org/donate
Join us this Thursday at 8 PM ET for the first of our "America: Beyond 250" speaker series! This virtual event will feature author, renowned historian, and one of the nation's leading experts on church-state separation, Professor Steven K. Green. Don't miss it. Register at atheists.org/beyond250
For some of us, the holiday season is rife with challenges. We're working to build a future where nonreligious Americans can live freely and authentically without fear. Building inclusive communities is life-saving work. Help us end the stigma today at atheists.org/community

No Gods, No Kings, No Petty Tyrants. Not today, not ever. #NoKings
249 years ago, the world's first secular democratic republic was founded by freethinking skeptics, its Declaration drafted by a so-called "howling atheist." Today, we remember our roots, and we fight in the great American tradition against the establishment of religion and "tyranny over the mind."
