Current view because I had a some warmed up salmon and asparagus that I couldn’t eat earlier today, and didn’t offer miss Hettie any. Narrator: Hettie dined on salmon earlier itoday and just finished a big dish of turkey pate…she is neither starving nor mistreated as she would like you to believe😂

Hettie: bad hoomum took me to the yucky vet place. Something about checking my kidneys n thyroid med n being important. they sucked out all my blood n nipped off my lovely little picky-poky scritchers 😾 Made it out alive n got new kong kicker so maybe I will forgive her..eventually #CatsOfBluesky

Hettie the elderly rescue kitty can relate to Chester’s feelings…altho it wasn’t window washers for her. Rather she was unhappy today w a young bear trying to climb in our kitchen window where she likes to lay catching sunbeams. (Her hoomum also wasn’t all that happy w the attempted B&E 😂)

Hettie: vet told us my kidneys aren’t working very well anymore. Makes me very tired n feel yucky sometimes. Is a nasty heatwave today so I don’t want to move around much. Hoomum is trying to help by serving my dinner to me in bed. Maybe heat waves are not so bad for some things😸

My ‘dwarf’ linden tree getting ready for its biennial, very fragrant bloom cycle. It was supposed to be about 8 ft tall at maturity-seems it didn’t get the memo😅. My side yard will soon be filled w the lime-lavender scent and constant hum of all the nectar loving critters gathering its offerings.

About 2/3 of a very full and tall linden tree is situated to the left of the photo and a lilac with spent blooms is under the arc of the lower linden branches. I just saw a transphobic past that was like, "In a sexual species, females have two X chromosomes and males have an X and a Y, I'm not a bigot it's just science." l'm a science teacher, so I commented this:

First of all, in a sexual species, you can have females be XX and males be X (insects), you can have females be ZW and males be ZZ (birds), you can have females be females because they developed in a warm environment and males be males because they developed in a cool environment (reptiles), you can have females be females because they lost a penis sword fighting contest (some flatworms), you can have males be males because they were born female, but changed sexes because the only male in their group died (parrotfish and clownfish), you can have males look and act like females because they are trying to get close enough to actual females to mate with them (cuttlefish, bluegills, others), or you can be one of thousands of sexes (slime mold, some mushrooms.) Oh, did you mean humans? Oh ok then. You can be male because you were born female, but you have 5-alphareductase deficiency and so you grew a penis at age 12. You can be female because you have an X and a Y chromosome but you are insensitive to androgens, and so you have a female body. You can be female because you have an X and a Y chromosome but your Y is missing the SRY gene, and so you have a female body. You can be
male because you have two X chromosomes, but one of your X's HAS an SRY gene, and so you have a male body. You can be male because you have two X chromosomes—but also a Y. Amazing what a few months of nutritious food, brushing and love can do. So happy to see Hettie’s fur is no longer ragged, brittle and covered in straw-coloured patches. It’s now uniformly grey and quite soft. Her white markings are brighter and velvety. 💜🐾🐾 #CatsOfBluesky #RescueCats #SeniorCats

As many of you are aware, I have not hosted Power and Politics since mid-February. This has been my choice. I have taken a medical leave that will extend into April. This is a personal matter and I hope people can respect my privacy in this.

I am posting this publicly because there have been many demands for the CBC to explain my absence and some unhelpful speculation about why I'm not hosting. The CBC has to respect my privacy in matters like this. I can assure you this is simply a personal medical leave. I fully intended to return to the show when my leave is over.

I have appreciated all the messages asking if I'm okay and when I'm coming back. The P&P team is the best in the business. They care about the show. They care about each other. They care about the audience. You are in very good hands during my absence.

Keeping a close eye on the bebe for injury..she had a bad fall in the middle of the night. I think she was asleep and maybe rolled or somehow slipped off the edge of her upper perch onto the floor. Poor muffin was mewling and scared but allowed me to check her over before curling up on the bed w me🥺

4 months ago today this fuzzy elderly bebe was placed in my care. She was severely malnourished, struggling with several life-threatening conditions and not considered adoptable. Lots of trial and error to find tolerated diet/litter, surgeries and sleepless nights..but look at her now💜🐾🐾 #GotchaDay
