The PS2 was probably the peak of home consoles, in terms of game budget balance leading to more experimentation. But, for me, nothing tops the unbroken line of succession of Nintendo handhelds from the original Game Boy straight through to the Switch 2.

There INCREASINGLY exists a niche market space for new, low spec, reasonably priced, indie friendly hardware with reasonably priced software, outside of the Big Three and that keeps devs in mind. As long as you're not a sociopath obsessed with numbers going up, you can totally make it work.

What’s a shitty no-name game that no one remembers but you have a place in your heart for? I’ll start:
My ur-example of "camp" in Star Wars comes from The Clone Wars, which is of course in the Prequel era. Ziro the Hutt and Sy Snootles are 10000% camp. They would be absolutely right at home in a John Waters movie.
