Just a big, queer ADHDer who plans and designs places. Views are my own. He/him. 📍 Glasgow, Scotland
Think my new ADHD meds are subtly working... I can count to 10 reps without getting distracted by my own thoughts, so that's a win.
I marched in my first Glasgow Pride today. Some colleagues and I got hold of a rainbow JCB for the parade and I spent most of my time trying to part the crowds and get the gayest telehandler you've ever seen through the city! I wanted folks to know that queers are EVERYWHERE, even in construction.
The nice thing about lifting in a heatwave is I'm one of only few who are insane enough to do it. That's the only nice thing about lifting in a heatwave.
Sometimes I forget I lift in a Welsh Rugby top—in Glasgow. And sometimes a random Welshman will shout CYMRU AM BYTH at me on the train to the gym.
Climate resilience in London is patchy, varying from street to street. Most streetscapes aren't designed for the weather we'll have tomorrow, never mind the weather we'll have in a decade or two's time. Anyway, happy London Climate Week everyone!
As I'm not dressed for the sauna, not even my gluttony for punishment can make me take the Underground. Instead, I'm walking to the office, choosing car-free, vegetated streets to keep cool. Several degrees cooler here.
Well, my trip to London is going swimmingly so far... As in swimming in my own sweat. No AC on the train. It's like a high-speed greenhouse. And it's due to be ~10°C hotter than this tomorrow. Yay, climate change.
Big thanks to the trustees of the Bon Accord Baths (legs of one pictured!) for giving me the privilege of accessing and photographing their beautiful building.
Don't worry everyone, you can legally be trans on a hovercraft! Really heartened to see transport queers accommodated in the EHRC's ridiculous draft guidance. 🥰
Little hike to a waterfall you can walk behind. It's cool that we live on a planet with liquid water.
Similar vibe: the slip road for my neighbourhood in Glasgow peels off from the fast lane thanks to another crappy, anachronistic, half-finished design. The M8 in Glasgow needs ripping up and replacing.
Just to confirm, it was supposed to be temporary; it forms part of the route of the proposed A6(M), if memory serves. You can still see the safeguarded route to the south of the junction on satellite imagery. Might explain the compromised design.
Felt all the feelings at Trans Pride Scotland today: anger, hope, joy, resistance... But most of all, a sense of community. I went to offer solidarity from the construction sector, to show that queers can be found even in the most unexpected places. We are everywhere! And we're not going anywhere.
Just ONE day left to respond to the consultation on removing a section of the M8 from Glasgow city centre. Head to removethem8.org.uk to have your voice heard. Do it NOW. ✊ Thank you! 🙏
A reminder that you have THREE days left to respond to the consultation about removing a section of the M8 motorway from the heart of Glasgow. Go to removethem8.org.uk for more info. Do it now! 🙏
If anything, the smoke situation in Glasgow is getting worse as the morning progresses. Stay safe out there.
Today is not the day to head into Glasgow city centre if you have respiratory issues. The air is acrid. This is the view from my office. The wind is coming from an unusual, south-easterly direction, so the smoke appears to be affecting neighbourhoods as far away as Woodside.
