In my post-election classes, I've started to share poetry with my students. These pieces—one by Franny Choi and another by Alexis Pauline Gumbs—give shape to human legacies of violence and unspeakable sadness. They also, I think, help ground ourselves through histories of ancestry and embodiment.

by flame. There was the apocalypse of the leaving, and the having left—
of my mother unsticking herself from her mother’s grave as the plane
