In my post-election classes, I've started to share poetry with my students. These pieces—one by Franny Choi and another by Alexis Pauline Gumbs—give shape to human legacies of violence and unspeakable sadness. They also, I think, help ground ourselves through histories of ancestry and embodiment.
As campus policing continues to expand at my university, the ties between education and carcerality remain wholly unsurprising. Reminder: Education is a technology of punishment and control.
