Logan Webb is 2nd among all pitchers with 1.1 fWAR in June. He is up to 1.9 fWAR on the year (tied with Landen Roupp for the team lead among pitchers) and is 'on pace' for another 4-fWAR season despite missing nearly a month this season.

Thought Carson Whisenhunt looked fine yesterday. You'd like to see his pitches miss more at-bats, but the changeup was effective against right-handed hitters, and the slider was functional against left-handed hitters. The fastball did not generate a whiff.

The SABR Defensive Index, which is factored into the Gold Glove voting, was updated recently. It is updated a couple of times throughout the year. Matt Chapman (8.2 SDI) is second among NL fielders and leads all third basemen by a comfortable margin in this category.

Not surprisingly, Landen Roupp's curveball ranks among the best curveballs in terms of run value. Opposing hitters only have a .200 batting average against it and a 38.9% whiff rate.

Carson Whisenhunt led all Triple-A pitchers yesterday with 22 whiffs -15 whiffs on the changeup -1 whiff on the fastball -6 whiffs on the slider

The Giants are 28th in baseball with a 4.84 rotation ERA. They have some pretty large unfavorable variances compared to FIP, so there is a case to be made that several of their pitchers have thrown better than their ERA would suggest.

I know Willy Adames' defense has not looked great so far this year, but I guess I did not expect to see him as the worst defensive shortstop in baseball.

Daniel Susac has 5 hits in the past 2 games against the Brewers, and 4 of them have been on attacking the first pitch when the pitcher is trying to steal a strike. That is one of the reasons he has been so good to start the year. It is not exit velo. It is not barrel rate...

Just kind of a random observation about the Giants' bullpen. That group has little variance in terms of stuff and release point. They all pretty much throw within the same 10 degrees of each other, and most sinker/slider pitchers.

The Giants have used 14 relievers this year. Christian Koss is 3rd on the team with a 3.08 FIP. That sounds like something I made up, so I went ahead and included the screenshot.

Another solid outing for Carson Whisenhunt, who struck out 7 across 5 innings today. That fastball has played a lot better this 2026. That continued today, as he got 9 of his 15 whiffs with it. The four-seamer is getting more vertical movement, and seems to be locating it...

You can probably point to several year-over-year changes for Robbie Ray, but the four-seamer and slider are not as effective as they were last year. For the four-seamer, opposing hitters are making more and better contact. That is a pitch he throws nearly half of the time.

The inclusion of the Arizona Complex League among qualified hitters skews the volume down quite a bit. That said, Josuar Gonzalez (.421 batting average) and Jonah Cox (.418 batting average) are 2nd and 3rd, respectively, among qualified hitters in batting average #SFGiants

Trevor McDonald did not help his case by hitting 2 batters and walking another in that 4th inning last night, but he did not allow much hard contact either. His final line was 7 earned runs in 3.2 innings.

Carson Whisenhunt has seen a small uptick in his fastball velo to 93.4 MPH. What stands out more is his ability (for the most part) to maintain his velo deeper into his starts. That has been more of a problem in the past.

Jonah Cox's 203 wRC+ leads all minor leaguers with 100 plate appearances this year. Not too far down that list is Zander Darby with a 178 wRC+.

Should they have taken him out after the 5th? That would have been my preference. Let him leave on more of a positive note. Exit velo is usually a good indicator for this, but he was giving up more hard contact in the 4-5 innings, so probably should have removed him after the 5th.

I think the biggest thing that stood out from Trevor McDonald's start last night was generating 4 whiffs in 9 chances on his changeup. In the same way that it was for Landen Roupp, that changeup needs to have functionality against left-handed hitters. Promising sign.

The first ACL Giants lineup features Josuar Gonzalez and Luis Hernández atop the lineup. Gonzales gets the first try at shortstop, whereas Hernánez shifts over to third base. They are two of the club’s top prospects.

Casey Schmitt has pulled the ball in the air in 34.4% of his batted-ball events this year, which ranks 4th among qualified hitters. He has a 430 wRC+ when he does that, and the spray chart below highlights the intent of his approach. Good things happen when he pulls the ball.

Landen Roupp has looked good through 3 starts this year, and the underlying metrics agree. A lot of red on his Baseball Savant page in the early going.

...to justify an everyday role. Harrison Bader's year-over-year numbers highlight why he is better suited as a fourth outfielder. Of course, the Giants needed to upgrade outfield defense, and that gives him a relatively high floor. He was coming off a career year (122 wRC+)...

This is what the #SFGiants lineup (8/9/15) looked like the last time a Susac started a game behind the plate. The results were not great, but a lot of fun names on a fun team. They played against the Cardinals that day.
