BASH BACK is a non-violent direct action group. our Guide explicitly says: "we do not condone causing physical harm to any human being".

By contrast, Reform politicians have repeatedly threatened to unleash extreme violence against migrants, queers, Palestinians, people of colour and disabled people.

WHAT A SHIT PRIDE MONTH
This Pride Month has made several things only
clearer:
Firstly, the NHS at this time aims to harm, not help,
trans people. Forcing trans people through drawn-out,
degrading and discriminatory processes to get the
same medications cis people do, using "gender-
exploratory therapy" as conversion therapy for trans
people, disrupting surgery provision for
transmasculine patients, opening a "detransition
pathway" while waves of GPs arbitrarily cancel HRT
prescriptions - all only makes clear what we as a
community already know - that they do not want us to
be trans, to be ourselves, to have access.
The state wants detransition, and conversion;
segregation and erasure.

WHAT A SHIT PRIDE MONTH
Secondly - our struggles are all interconnected.
To anyone who previously saw the rights of trans kids
as an acceptable sacrifice that would never spill over
onto trans adults: look where that has lead.
To anyone who saw the rights of trans prisoners as
too touchy a subject and didn't speak out when only
some were banned: look where that has lead.
This month has shown that AN ATTACK AGAINST
ONE IS AN ATTACK AGAINST ALL.
Enough appeasement - we must resolutely defend
the principle of medical, bodily and political autonomy
for all trans people and not concede an inch to a Right
thatis constantly moving the goalposts. This June
also saw newly minted Reform councils in England
being openly racist and refusing to fly pride flags,
while in Belfast racist riots burned through the streets.
There is no liberation but liberation for all.

WHAT A SHIT PRIDE MONTH
Finally - relying on the goodwill of politicians,
parties and the state WILL NEVER lead to the
liberation we seek. Relentless assaults on our
bodily autonomy and legal rights by the state, and
WellBN's betrayal by a Sussex ICB that once
supported them, show that working within the
system leaves the power of those at the top
unchallenged and able to pull the plug whenever
it's convenient for them.
The only way for us to get meaningful change is to
LIBERATE OURSELVES - to build up our own
community power and scare concessions out of
the transphobic and transmisogynistic state.
We're just one part of that movement, but choosing
today to BASH BACK is a step we can all take
towards our collective liberation.

SO, WHAT NOW?
To all trans people in the
UK sick of being walked
over and who want to fight
for change: JOIN US.
To Sussex ICB, the EHRC
and all the politicians and
media outlets intent on
making trans lives
unbearable: expect us.

HANDS OFF TRANS CARE!•
BASH BACK will not sit back as trans kids
and adults are stripped of their dignity and
bodily autonomy by the state.
The treatment of all trans people seeking
healthcare in the UK is a scandal. This is just
one of a slew of quiet, piecemeal disruptions
and removals of trans care in recent years.
We will not accept this, and neither should
you. BASH BACK stands in solidarity with
everyone on waiting lists, having surgeries
cancelled, needing surgeries not provided
on fhe NHS at all, prescriptions refused, and
all other forms of medical negligence we are
expected to accept.

TRANS PRISONERS
Legally, June has been a disaster.
Following a legal challenge brought by
transphobic lobby group For Women
Scotland, a Scottish judge ruled in June that
allowing some trans prisoners to be held in
the estate matching their gender is unlawful.
Trans women prisoners are therefore to be
quietly moved from womens' estates. The
Scottish government will not be appealing
[13].
As abolitionists, we will fight for all prisoners
to be free of this oppressive and cruel
system. We stand with trans prisoners and
their right to dignity and safety.

CONVERSION THERAPY 'BAN'
Next up, after years of delay by multiple
governments, the draft bill for banning conversion
therapy was announced. Its broad exemption for
healthcare exposes trans people to abuse in both
regulated and unregulated settings and its absurd
distinction between conversion practices and
'abusive' conversion practices (all conversion
therapy is abuse) opens the door to allowing
conversion therapy in other contexts too.
Designating causing people "to have" or "to
believe that they have [...] a transgender identity
or a particular transgender identity" [14] as a form
of conversion therapy could mean the law is used
to attack trans-supportive people (including
healthcare providers) for supposedly "transing"
people.

CONVERSION THERAPY 'BAN'
We wish we could say we're surprised at another
spit in the face from a government that professes
to care for our (dignity. Abigail Thorn's award-
winning video essay on conversion therapy - which
featured BASH BACK as a key pillar - put it best
when she concluded that 'any serious attempt to
[ban conversion therapy in the UK] would have to
engage with the fact that the NHS has been doing
it for decades [...] and several of the things that
make conversion practices wrong are core
features of the NHS trans healthcare pathway.' 115]
The stitch-up of WellBN, attacks on the healthcare
of transmasculine patients seeking bottom
surgery, and the dilution of the conversion therapy
ban are all part of the same project: to prevent
people from being trans. Why would they abandon
any one part of that project, when it's all for the
same goal?

PRIDE MONTH WAS TERRIBLE FOR TRANS PEOPLE. 2026 has been a garbage year for trans people, but no part of it has been rougher than this June. Pride month should be a time for celebration and resistance, instead we saw huge rollbacks to our already limited rights. [1/3]

It's been a rough year.
In February, we received updated draft statutory
guidance on gender for schools in England that risks real
harm to trans youth, with more than an echo of Section
28 [1].
In May, the UK dropped yet further in the ILGA Europe
annual ratings, remaining in 22nd place of 49 but
receiving a lower score than in 2025[2].
At the end of May, the EHRC released its new guidance,
effectively banning trans people from areas of public life
[3] and which the Lemkin Institute for Genocide
Prevention has condemned as 'genocidal in nature'. [4]
In healthcare, our community continues to report GPs
refusing not only bridging prescriptions, shared care with
private providers, and continuity of prescriptions from
abroad - but even prescribing hormones on instruction
from GICs [5; 6].
But nothing could have prepared us for June.

"Happy" Pride
June - Pride Month - saw yet more blows to
gender affirming care access.
While nurses in Darlington celebrated a payout of
€185k for refusing to share a changing room with a
trans woman (costing Durham and Darlington NHS
Trust €600k in legal fees) [7], on the other side of
the country Sussex ICB made the decision to pull
the plug on a vital resource for trans youth and
adults in Brighton - WellBN clinic.
What follows is a list of just a few of the crises
affecting trans people this Pride Month

WELLBN CLINIC
The WellBN GP practice in Brighton took an affirming
approach to trans healthcare, using an informed
consent model. This was a lifeline for trans kids
seeking bridging prescriptions on the NHS while
transferring from private healthcare.
After a year-long 'investigation', having 'discovered'
this 'rogue clinic' (Sussex ICB supported WellBN's
actions for years before political winds shifted) [8], the
ICB is ending prescriptions for gender-affirming care
by 31st July for all patients who started under-18. An
anonymous source has informed BASH BACK that
this includes not only trans people still under-18, but
also some who are now adults.
This contradicts previous government policy on
restr.icting healthcare for trans youth, which paused
new prescriptions but did not cancel prescriptions for
those already on puberty blockers [9] or HRT [10],
setting a dangerous precedent for state-mandated
detransition of both trans kids and adults.

TRANSMASCULINE LOWER SURGERY
Adding to the shitshow, we are saddened and
angered that New Victoria Hospital will stop providing
transmasculine bottom surgeries from the end of
2026 [11].
NHSE, who were not responsible for the cancellation,
has reassured patients that a new provider will be
secured soon, which is welcome. But messing around
like this with gender-affirming care is unacceptable.
This marks yet another disruption to provision Of
masculinising bottom surgery. In 2020, the only
contract at the time was quietly not renewed. The
fallout of this lasts today, even though two new
hospitals were contracted between 2021-2023.
At that time, many patients who had already been
waiting years for surgery were delayed even further -
some patients even waiting years between stages or
for repairs - due to disruptions [12].

BREAKING on @TimesRadio: we've unearthed social media posts by a senior officer at the MHRA, the regulator overseeing the puberty blockers trial.
Posts expressing gender critical views and mocking trans supporters appeared on the X account of Prof Jacob George, MHRA's chief medical and scientific officer, who was only appointed last month.
His account has now been deleted and the MHRA told us the Prof had been recused from the trial. Stay tuned...
