Woke since 1946. Retired and now take care of my sister’s 7 rescued horses. I’m getting old and I don’t respond to personal messages. Remembering the 1950s and 60s, women and minorities were respected a lot less than they are now. I don’t want to go back.
Calypso was upset because the other horses were in a barn out of sight. She has always lived in a herd and loves it. My sister’s horses have one job: Go forth and be a horse any way you choose. They are not ridden. Their domain is safe and comforting. They like being in a grove of trees.
Oh the drama. Calypso had a hoof trim then was turned loose. She ran back and forth whinnying because she couldn’t see the other horses.
My sister led her horses into the barn one by one except Bubby walked in by himself and went in his stall
An old photo of Sister and Willow. Sister thought her friend might be dead so she touched her with her nose. Willow leapt to her feet and chased Sister threatening to bite her for a while.
Bubby waits for me to enter his pen. He is very considerate if you are having trouble walking and walks slowly at your side in case you need to lean on him. Born wild he sometimes shocks with his sensitivity. Years ago a wild horse died without warning. He suddenly was protective of her.
Calypso gets very irritable in hot weather. She thought my sister was giving another horse all the carrots so she tried to kick her.
Calypso ever on guard walks the fence line. Watching her spy routine is entertaining. I’ll visit them tomorrow.
Daryl stopped and stared at me. Horses sometimes have a problem splitting their loyalty. My sister has been home taking care of them for months. When I visit I’m not surprised when a horse snubs me. He’s making a statement.
Happy Father’s Day. This is mine in a Barracuda torpedo bomber. I just noticed the barracuda pin on his wings.
Two horses waiting for me at a time. When my sister rescued a dozen horses they ran at us 2 at a time to be chased away by 2 more and so on in a whirling circle. Years later there’s only a little jealousy over who gets the most attention.
Calypso is a professional spy. She didn’t enter the arena without checking the area first. She came to see me still on alert she circled around me before touching her nose to my hand.
I saw the horses today. It had been too long. Willow needed my constant attention.
Bubby and I listened to The Moody Blues. He loves music and leaned into me, a sure sign of an affectionate horse.
My only uncle served in the Canadian Army and brought home these wooden shoes. A souvenir of the liberation of Holland.
During WWI and other dire times people talked of building castles in the air. They were daydreaming about the war being over and planning their future. Look! I found one!
My name is Brian and I am a raging bookaholic. This is a new book about WWI that is inclusive of ALL the diverse people caught up in the war.
