ok this is the take on makeup first, we will see how this goes, please dont eat me like twt did lol. I also had to summerise but I could actually write a small book on make up critique alone

ok so I will say the makeup one first cause thats the one people hated before lol.

so first id say makeup isnt an individual expression of freedom, but a system of social control designed to keep women focused on attractiveness, sexual desirability, and is even used as self-surveillance under patriarchy.

id argue that women are actually punished for not wearing makeup and so its not a "free-choice". I think makeup also normalises the idea that your natural face is inadequate and these makeup companies profit from your insecurities.

realistically alot of feminine beauty practices are learned performances that are shaped by male expectations rather than innate self-expression.

and tbh id go as far as to say makeup functions similarly to class or status signalling and reinforces hierarchies among women by rewarding conformity to eurocentric, youthful, or sexualised beauty standards.

however in saying all this, im not trying to criticise women for adapting to the social realities we face yet didnt create.
I also feel its disingenuous to argue about using theatre makeup because it ignores the actual critique i have of routine beauty labour.
