Dad, Professor of Astronomy at the University of Louisville. He/Him/hey you. Opinions are my own. As are the typos. Astronomy, datascience, ethics & occasional US/EU politics.
Done! Fun read about the evolution and structure of brains. Reads well and packs a lot in ~200 pages. Highly recommended. Disclaimer: Rogier is a college friend. Of course I’m going to read books written by my friends.
Haven’t seen the film, I assume it’s just Odysseus telling his men this when asked when they’ll reach home over and over?
This is a really cool cover. Astro puzzle covers are the best. I may be a little biased ;)
I love biking to appointments etc because you get to see funny little things that people put up that you’d miss in a car.
We went to the Flyover Festival showing of “a fork in the road” documentary on farming. The KY farming family that was featured was there at the Speed Art Museum showing! And the Berry Foundation. Cool evening out. www.forkintheroaddocumentary.com
Show me a comic page you love; no explanation needed. Sorry couldn’t pick.
My trusted little rolling carryon bag busted its wheel this summer. Order replacement set and some troubleshooting and all new wheels! I love succeeding in fixing things.
Accompanying elderkid Ms C to her paleontology camp. This was one of the fossils they showed us. We got buckets full. Turns out Kentucky is full of fossils!
Enjoying the Dutch landscape with the tips of the wind turbines dipping into low clouds. Almost a Stalenhag painting (without the doom).
Ms C has identified and acquired a “culturally relevant artifact”. An Albert Heyn Hamster.
Thursday the heat got me and I was pretty much useless. But I did manage to expand the French Asterix collection my dad started decades ago.
Yay. It has arrived! Now to keep focused while brain is wilting.
College buddy wrote a book. Looks great. Book about brain. Hmmmmmbook
Should we let @aussiastronomer.bsky.social know that Costco has TimTams?
Cincinnati has a shop called Jungle Jim. I cannot overstate how over the top the place is. It has foodstuff of any country you may know. It is awesome. Dutch licorice, stroopwafels, ginger cake. Went to Cincinnati for a couch, returned with snacks.
As one can see from the speckled floor, I once again find myself at the airport. Wasn’t I just here?
This has been our strategy over the years. Weeks like this one below are fun. Solar panels, geothermal heat/cooling, triple pane windows, always replace with most efficient electrical appliance when time comes. No more solar panels, we would lose the net metering.
Ah that’s a “your salary comes from elsewhere doesn’t it?” Offer. For an academic that’s okay because it’ll get counted for tenure etc. It still sounds really good. And sometimes the motivation to write is to stop having it rattle around your own head.
