The main reason why Apple wants Mac App Store Exclusives for games: no sales or discounts equal higher commissions. They don't care about the platform or the users anymore, just the services revenue.
There are far more advanced Matter smart thermostats out there, but Honeywell X2s has one major advantage in my situation: it has zero learning curve coming from the ancient RTH6350 it replaced and in my situation, that's important. Plus it was $56 shipped.
