If I had a book out I'd plug it here. But I don't. So I won't. (but I would if I did) TA | Accidental Art Teacher | Trust T&L Lead | Research Lead | ELE | Art Historian in Training
Today we went to the immersive Monet thing at Nottingham arena. Was OK but not all that, & glad we didn't book for the Van Gogh one as we did a similar thing last year. This one was lift music and moving projections that looked a bit photoshop in a cube. Not really worth the £. Will write about it.
It was fun! We booked it for our 'china' anniversary. All a bit trial and error and other people did some really lovely ones, but we made some coasters too.
I'm on with Lilly, she's going to teach me about Early Modern women's history. Because she's cool.
How cute is this card I got for my work pal, Kev? Nothing says happy birthday than pop and crisps do.
Howard took me up the Castle for a treat and I had the biggest piece of cake.
Last night I dreamt that it was bin day and we'd forgotten*, the pub down the road had got out of hand and we needed to escape the molotov cocktails**, and chunks of the mattress were falling out†. * woke suddenly, still dark ** woke suddenly, remembered our village †woke suddenly, gave up sleeping
Monday is 'Cultural Day' at school. Each form has a Caribbean island, morning activities and an afternoon 'island hop' with fact finding, food and carnival atmosphere. On Friday the face painter we booked, cancelled. Guess what I'm doing on Monday...
Visited Djanogly Gallery this afternoon to see the Drawn Through Time exhibition properly. Lots of Penny McCarthy graphite drawing as a response to a Titian woodcut and invited artists exploring drawing pasts and futures. Liked it. Made notes. Then popped over to see the cardboard city.
I can't trust any of the weather forecasts this morning. There's solid sky and an eerie mist billowing past the windows, and yet apparently we've got full sun... (it's feels really good not to have the early sun though. Might have to dust off some actual socks 😃)
My Stubbs book arrived. You know how I'm a sucker for a study on paper. Well.
You'll get me in trouble, but I'm loving him. Perhaps heretical that my favourite so far has no animals and a massive building, but very excitingly he has dogs next to the same ones by Reynolds at Belvoir for direct comparison so we peered at them nicely. (🥰 commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Ge...)
Enjoying a conference lull whilst everyone is in sessions. Good start to the day with Francesca Martinez smashing it out of the park 😍
This evening has involved the annual construction of my thank yous to internal speakers at our conference. One day to go...
Lilly is telling me all about women's prehistory and antiquity. She's onto the 'Messy Iron Age'. I love her.
It's the annual 'Howard helps allocate the sessions for the Trust conference' afternoon. I've finished my fizzy pop already.
Every year, as a thank you to our internal conference speakers, I buy lapel pins for them. This year's badges have arrived and they're not my badges. I don't even have a van, but I'm a bit tempted to use them...
We have one classroom with air con. It is opposite my office, with closed doors on the (tiny) corridor between us. I am taking advantage of this and have a practically jumper-inducing 26°C going on in here 😎
First 21 of 500 books for colleagues have arrived ahead of our conference in a couple of weeks... I might get buried in my office.
And how lovely is this gallery activity? This is a great example of art history for kids - promotes close observation, includes different levels of questioning and storytelling with inference. More of this please!
Also, because we were in Derby, I got my lunch fix of the Museum of Making's award-winning* halloumi koftas 😋 *it is an award that I have awarded them in my mind
I was so happy to see that Orrery was prominent, and the provincial wasn't overshadowed by national. The whole thing had a more welcoming vibe - lots of families, activities and more centered on Wright. Also, whilst the NG charged, this is totally FREE 🥰
This weekend the Wright of Derby exhibition opened at Derby Museum and Art Gallery and I just got to see it all again - particularly special having written my final MA assignment on its stint at the National Gallery.
