Bird Friendly Hamilton Burlington
@bfhb
Working to conserve and raise awareness of wild birds, through Nature Canada's Bird Friendly City program. Burlington and Hamilton, Ontario, were both certified as bird friendly cities in April 2022!
Our feathered friends are starting their journey south for the winter! You can help them arrive safely by: 🌙 Turning off non‑essential outdoor lighting from now until mid‑October 🪟 Closing blinds/curtains at night to reduce glow from windows 💡 Using warm‑toned, downward‑shielded lights
Be part of #GlobalBirdRescue, Sept 21-27. Join bird conservation groups & community members around the world to rescue and document birds affected by window collisions. Learn more at globalbirdrescue.org, or message us to join our team: birdfriendlyhamiltonburlington.wordpress.com/contact-us-2/

Anyone kayaking along the Waterfront Trail soon? 🚣♂️ We spotted a snagged fishing line bobber near the Waterfront Trail Lookout Point. If you’re on the water and can safely retrieve it, you’d be helping keep the shoreline safer for wildlife 💚

🌙✨ Spring migration is underway, and most birds fly while we sleep. From March to May, millions of songbirds navigate at night using the moon, stars, and darkness. Artificial light can disorient them, pulling birds off course and increasing the risk of deadly window collisions.
