Steam Controller's design is a good example of why I love Valve Hardware so much.
Unreal Engine 6 blueprint deprecation is devastating news. While it is tough to argue against AI for rapid code generation, the access BP gave Technical Designers and Technical Artists to make magic isn't being acknowledged enough.
At WWDC Apple Glasses are a given... but if we get any visionOS news to clarify a long term roadmap, since we're hearing rumors on it, I will be very happy. It helps navigate the long term planning that developers need to pitch and build.
Linux alpha demo build testing Project Jump Scare on my kid's TV with Steam Deck and Steam Controller.
Survios holds a special place in my past. Weird to see all the news after being there at the very beginning. Unfortunately a common trend right now... It was a magical moment doing roomscale VR in 2013 before most could only dream of it.
Guess who didn't plan for my iOS build pipeline with UE 5.6 to break April 28th... Wish me luck. 🫠
Meta appreciates their employees so much as to replace them with AI as fast as possible... so what do you think that means for DEVELOPERS feeding their abilities and ideas into AI tooling data. At Meta Connect it will be interesting to see how this is all framed into a pitch.
People might wonder why Microsoft would pivot from something that felt like "Xbox needs to die" to it becoming crucial to their plans... the answer I believe is that gaming itself is a fountain of AI data ripe for training needs and a market perfect for AI product exploration use cases... (cont)
If you think Meta's redesign is driven by Quest platform itself... you might be missing the bigger picture. Why redesign so much more toward the Apple Vision Pro's OS at all? Perhaps that style fits a light form factor? Does eye tracking impact this approach? What about controllerless design? 😎
I'm generating LODs on a few roughly 8 million tri models in Unreal and I can't believe it doesn't crash They come out great too. Witchcraft!
I've noticed a dynamic with my kids where I can start a game for myself... then the minute they show interest it becomes more satisfying letting them play. In fact their playing through gives me the same completion feel as if I had played through it myself. Very interesting.
Wow so nice to get rid of the swyft prompt on my Vision Pro builds and get fixed foveated. You can see it in the video at the edges of the video easily on the spheres and cubes. Huge shout out @polyarcgames.com really appreciated. Can't wait to incorporate the fixes. 🙏
On spotty hotel Wifi with VPN into my office just to get the @polyarcgames.com Apple Vision Pro project up. Been two years of hoping on Epic to expand support... Polyarc didn't have to share their fixes so massive thank you to the whole team!
Reflecting in Tokyo with my time off... Thought hard on what happened to VR industry this past month... This is a long read: I've been in VR since 2013 when I first helped start up Survios. You can imagine how the Meta VR fallout devastated me in really unique ways.
I'm wondering if there is a Steam Frame capability that maybe spooked Meta where they can't close some sort of technological gap in a reasonable product cycle...
New Years Eve has me think on my past. 10 years ago my demo for Oculus DK2 exhibited at SVVR- "Project Jump Scare" After working on many VR titles this past decade I've made a resolution to make Project Jump Scare ship in 2026. May your own dreams come true. Happy New Year all!
Meta Start Hackathon results are out! Didn’t take the hand interaction prize, but the locomotion system performed well enough that it’s now the primary locomotion method for our Apple Vision Pro build. Thanks to everyone who followed along and shared feedback.
UE5 Hand Tracking Locomotion ported to Apple Vision Pro! Brought over my Meta Start Competition tech submission over with great results. Not a bad land before Holiday break!
Final submission for the Meta Horizon Start Developer Competition 2025! Solved a recurring XR design problem using a unified input abstraction layer that adapts locomotion systems across: •Meta Quest hand tracking •VisionOS gesture input •iOS touch •PC / mouse / gamepad
Meta Horizon Start Developer Competition 2025 final video - Project Jump Scare's hand tracked locomotion system! 🤗🎮
Sneak peak! 👀 - Motion Controller to Hand Tracking is a small part of what I've worked on for Meta's Hackathon 🤗
How's the Project Jump Scare desktop build looking Chat? Frame rate from VR optimizations should make this run well even on Deck. We'll see!
I'm at E3 and dude hands me this. "What's Twitch?" I say I then have many beers and it never came off the keychain🍻
$750 rumor is high for Steam Machine. Too high. Feel similar to when I heard PSVR 2 price point. Didn't fit market. But I also don't think people are realizing the memory shortage issue. Consoles / PCs might continually spike as AI eats all ram. Like ongoing YoY adjustments 🫠
