Hope, grace, life. #bhafc. Bishop of Whitby. Serving across the Diocese of York, especially from #Middlesbrough & the Tees to the Vale of Pickering, & Thirsk to Whitby. Chair of Board of Education. Geriatric millennial.
A proper tea treat to mark #YorkshireDay. Blessings from Middlesbrough to all who join us in celebrating.
Looking forward to my next visit to the Amex so as to enjoy the questionable west stand red replaced by a flight of fine wines paired with a cheeseburger and different colours of starburst. Sounds like an off-dry Riesling would proper go with the orange and yellow ones @wearebrighton.com
In Jesus Christ the universal has become local and the local become personal. Local vision, local gifts, local trades learnt locally. God always has an address. A joy to help celebrate the centenary of St Michael and St George's, Castleton @churchofengland.org up on the Moors this morning.
What blessed three days with 450 colleagues from across @dioceseofyork.bsky.social at 2026 diocesan conference, Called+Sent. 32 fabulous speakers/seminar leaders united in purpose, diverse in perspective Worship, ice cream, football & poetry. The faithfulness of God thru the life of parish churches
It was a great blessing to get time on Friday at the new #Zurbaran exhibition at the National Gallery. If you're able to go, it is well worth a visit. Extraordinary images painted with vivid colour, contrast & most of all a deep Christian faith. They point to God's love and call most beautifully.
A joy to celebrate the amazing @teessideuni.bsky.social this evening at the Graduation Dinner, to honour honorary graduates Mark White CBE DL, Beth Mead MBE & Steve Gibson OBE, and especially to thank the astonishing Professor Paul Croney OBE as he 'retires' after 11 years as Vice-Chancellor 👏🍾🥳
Always a treat to spend the day visiting the #GreatYorkshireShow, hearing about the current state of farming from industry leaders, meeting with NFU, CLA and FCN, and celebrating the beauty of creation and the huge difference the rural economy makes to the nation in so many ways...
What a blessed week: 5 garden parties, 300 clergy & lay leaders and their households, and clergy widows, 15 hours of piano music, more salmon than knew existed & 1 ice cream van - for the clergy kids party. Giving thanks to God for such wonderful colleagues across the archdeaconry of Cleveland.
A delight to license Nigel Wright as new House for Duty Priest in Thirkleby, Bagby, Sessay and Kilburn tonight alongside incumbent Dianne, and to recommission a host of lay roles - and to do so in Thirkleby this 175th anniversary year @dioceseofyork.bsky.social
Bittersweet as say thank you tonight to beloved colleague & Archdeacon of the East Riding Andy Broom, whilst delighted at God's call to be a parish priest in Howden also in @dioceseofyork.bsky.social As he said in his sermon, "We are local, we are parish, we are embedded in every community"
And then tomorrow (Sunday 28th), in Cleveland Archdeaconry, and delighted to be ordaining as priests in the Churchof God: Donneta Thomas (4pm, Swainby) and Peter Birkenshaw (10am, Northallerton). All welcome for a great celebration of God's faithfulness and call
Much joy as Jane Robson becomes Vicar of Kirkleatham @dioceseofyork.bsky.social tonight. Having confirmed in the benefice last week and visited the 5th anniversary fair of St Hilda's a few weeks before, a delight to celebrate such missional churches serving their community in God's name. Alleluia!
A joy to confirm the baptism of six beloved daughters and sons of God - both young people and adults - from South Otterington and Topcliffe @dioceseofyork.bsky.social this morning. Here's a flavour of what some of them wrote in the service booklet:
Blessed time to gather with school leaders and governors for the @dioceseofyork.bsky.social annual diocesan education conference.
Inspiring to host 80 civic, political, charity, healthcare, education & business leaders from across #Middlesbrough this morning for the six monthly Bishop's Boro Big Breakfast. Today's theme: fostering hope and ambition. So many good news stories, fascinating interviews & much sharing.
If you are interested in God's calling to be intercultural churches which better reflect the fullness of God's Kingdom and call, then this is well worth a read..... cc @dioceseofyork.bsky.social
One of my favourite nights of the year as those being ordained or training for ordination in Cleveland archdeaconry come round for dinner round the firepit as we discuss the ordinal together. Such precious time, such beautiful callings, gives such hope in what God will do in the years to come.
The good people at The Teesside Charity have selected 20 finalists for their 2026 Gold Giveaway. They're all wonderful charities worthy of support. There is one though, Big Kids, that I have got to know very well and especially commend to your voting: www.teessidecharity.org.uk/golden-givea...
If you enjoy listening to good live music, sometimes performed from under a put up gazebo, in heavy rain whilst wearing a poncho, you missed out on a cracking night in Sunderland yesterday. Superb from #TakeThat, #TheScript and #BelindaCarlisle
Such a joy to commission a new Urdu, Hindi, Punjabi and English speaking congregation at St Barnabas Middlesbrough @dioceseofyork.bsky.social today. A wonderful occasion, God at work and taste of heaven.
Won’t deny there's been the odd tear (to put it mildly) in our household over this too (not just our daughter!). Hard to understand the logic in setting a paper so distinct from any previous one. Good to hear Ofqual are on the case and reassuring from Edexcel on moving grade boundaries.
Very much looking forward to commissioning this exciting ministry this Saturday at St Barnabas Church, Middlesbrough @dioceseofyork.bsky.social All welcome.
Very much looking forward to baptising (by full immersion) and confirming 15 beloved daughters and sons of the living God this Sunday at St Barnabas, Middlesbrough @dioceseofyork.bsky.social Sent from across the nations to Middlesbrough. Alleluia! 10:30am followed by lunch. All welcome.
A great joy to license Revd Dr Gill Boag-Munroe as Curate-in-Charge of Easington and Liverton tonight. Always interesting to see the Bible readings the person being licensed picks - intriguing and unusual tonight!
Moving, rousing, entertaining. Raising a glass to #ChoirOfMan at the Sunderland Empire tonight. Do get a ticket if you can. Excellent (and not a bad vision of what God has made us for).
A treat to be with Pep at a little garden party in London today, and honour to meet the Chief Rabbi. Slightly embarrassingly had a nice chat about history with someone who kindly offered to take some photos of Pep & I. Didn't occur to me to ask him to be in them. Realised later it was Tom Holland🤦♂️
As @mfc.co.uk & @southamptonfc.bsky.social prepare for the #Championship Playoff semi-final, as @churchofengland.org bishops serving #Middlesbrough #Boro and #Southampton #Saints, here's a little message from Bishop Rhiannon and I:
Having prepared for away fans being put up all the stairs with several months of cardio, and losing 3-1, still good to spend the afternoon cheering on #bhafc
Such an encouraging morning celebrating the 5th anniversary of the new church building at St Hilda's. A packed church full of groups from across Kirkleatham. A great example of church at the heart of community.
Looking forward to being with Fr Tom and the community at St Mark's, Thornaby this evening (Sat 25th), giving thanks to God as we celebrate their patronal festival (and explore the significance of the longer ending of Mark's Gospel!). 6pm mass followed by wine and cheese. All welcome
