My screen door isn't the most exotic background, but this lovely Luna Moth visited us last night and stayed through part of the day today. I haven't seen one for a long time! I feel lucky that it visited for a while. #InsectThursday #ECK #Photography #LunaMoth #Macro

A Luna Moth rests on a dark door screen. Its wings are a delicate light green with "eyes" on each of its four wings. The upper wings are rimmed with a brownish line. The body is pale and very fuzzy. The antennas are yellow and frilly. A luna moth only lives for about a week, during which time it mates. It has no mouth or digestive system so can't eat. This was about 4" wide.

A Virginia ctenucha moth is a day flier and apparently common in the Northeast. It was about 1.5" long with dark black/brown wings, a metallic blue body and bright orange head. The edges of the wings are lined with white. It was walking away from the paparazzi.
