That's a 6-game losing streak (to the Red Sox and Cubs). OK, last year’s Dodgers suffered through a seven-game losing streak and still emerged as repeat champs. But this little streak is a reminder that this team is capable of the sort of swoon that could get you eliminated in October.
The Jefry Yan Experience has arrived for the Mets (as I furiously flip through the pages of baseball's unwritten rulebook.)
"We have the parameters of a deal that would include the Immediate, Complete, and Total OPENING OF THE HORMUZ STRAIT, and an end to Iran’s nuclear threat.”
Wild heater: Royals speedster Tyler Tolbert is 12-for-12 in his past three games, raising his batting average from .200 to .396 in that span. 😳
#OTD July 6 in 1933: The first All-Star Game is played at Comiskey Park in Chicago — and of course @sportingnews.com, est. 1886, covered it!
The @sportingnews.com cover dated July 1, 2002. Yes, we actually ordered voodoo dolls and yes, the cover credit on the table of contents page reads: "COVER PHOTO OF VOODOO DOLLS BY DILIP VISHWANAT/TSN"
Why the rush to live-sports programming as our viewing habits fracture? In 2005, sports accounted for 14 of Nielsen’s top 100 most-viewed live programs. In 2025, 95 of the top 100 were sports, with football alone taking 90 spots. (via Yahoo Sports Biz, graphic by Lev Akabas/Sportico)
The @sportingnews.com cover dated June 25, 2007. An arresting image for an important story. (FYI, especially STL peeps: That's Chiefs QB Trent Green, pride of Vianney HS in Kirkwood, MO.)
Thinking on Lou Gehrig Day of late friend + @sportingnews.com coworker Fran Farrell, an all-around good dude and talented publisher who fought valiantly against ALS. In winking tribute to Fran (a big Bosox guy), Charles M. Conlon's close-up portrait of "the Iron Horse," who died 85 years ago today.
How old was the Phillies scoreless-innings record that Cristopher Sanchez broke Wednesday? It was set by this dude in 1911: Hall of Famer Grover Cleveland Alexander (📸 Charles M. Conlon)
Peruse these numbers and then ponder how all those GOP primary winners backed by you-know-who are going to fare in a general election when there's no grape Kool-Aid served at the polling stations.
Win-probability from last night's Eastern Finals Game 1 looks like a rollercoaster at Cedar Point. (CLE WP at 8:02 of 4th was 99.9% 😳) Remember: You must be this tall to ride the ride, Cavs fans.
The game is rigged. #InsiderTrading (via @paulkrugman.substack.com.web.brid.gy)
Hey, how many wins do the Knicks need to reach the Eastern Conference Finals?
Happy heavenly birthday to Willie Mays, the "Say Hey Kid," born May 6, 1931, would've been 95 today.
May 5. Hello springtime in the Rockies! (@cbscolorado.bsky.social live cam)
The @sportingnews.com cover dated May 5, 2006. I gotta be honest, 20 years later it still kinda creeps me out.
Sunday ROAD TRIP! Down I-55 to Crystal City, STL Burger Club was at Gordon's Stoplight Drive-In, opened in 1948. It lands at No. 3 on our growing list, trailing only Carl's Drive In and Woofie's Hot Dogs. Lacy-edged double smash burgers with melted cheese on a fresh, soft bun = hamburger heaven.
Jaw-dropping data viz by Kirk Goldsberry. Or as Yahoo Sports AM newsletter put it, simply: "Ladies and gentlemen, LeBron James."
BONUS: Here's the cover, a tight portrait by longtime friend and former coworker @albertdickson.bsky.social.
