This partial neanderthal skeleton covered in mineral deposits was found in a sinkhole in Italy. It remains one of the most striking images I've seen. I think about it a lot.

A skull and some of the long bones of a neanderthal skeleton. They are covered in white encrustations that strongly resemble pearls. These encrustations are also on the cave walls.

St Teresa has joined the "not mad, just disappointed" group.

The same statue of St Ignatius, now fully visible. Next to it is a smaller statue of St Teresa of Avila with a similar expression with her eyes heavenward. They're supposed to look saintly but I've always thought they look exasperated.

Inspired by @bloodwork.show 's latest episode about Afghan war carpets, I took a fresh look look at mine which I picked up at a second hand store in 2010. It cost me about $8. What I find telling about it is how the English lettering is almost illegible, but the weapons are clearly identifiable.

It should say "made in Afghanistan" and "Pakistan" but the letters are a mess. It's dated 2008
