Software dev and entrepreneur trying to disrupt an industry I know very little about. mxtp.gg
Finished touching up my landing page, plus added an about page, which will link to an interactive form of the roadmap soon. Added a waitlist confirmation email which will contain a link to download the Year 0 doc, which I am formatting today. #buildinpublic #musicsky
Greatly simplified my landing page today. Removed everything except what you see here. The Learn More button doesn't go anywhere yet, but will go to the main info page. The doc I've been working on this month will also live on that page probably. #buildinpublic #musicsky
As an outsider, I have very little knowledge of the music business, other than what I've gained anecdotally over the years. I've no idea of the quality of this book, but I have to imagine it will at least be enlightening? #music #musicbusiness #musicsky #buildinpublic
Working on the editor canvas for my site builder today. Implemented zoom & pan functionality, including the button & menu in the footer. I can't decide if I like it better with or without the gridlines? They're visual guides only. What do you think? #buildinpublic
Updating the landing page for stickerch.art got me thinking about the editor control for charts, and how I could improve it. I want to add it to the landing page so users can see the customizations from there, but it needs some work first. #buildinpublic
Still working on the release form for MxTp. In the past I used react-select to create a multi-select genre tagging component. I re-used some of what I did then, plus updated the styling now that I know more about it. I'm pleased with it! Tracks are next. #buildinpublic
stickerch.art marketing done today: + blog post + FB group outreach + registered on PH + registered on startup fame as well, but ran into issues Also worked on mxtp.gg release management form (see screenshot). #buildinpublic
After meticulously reading the account docs for Stripe, and doing a bit of tinkering with what worked and what didn't, Connect onboarding is integrated. Form is about as close as I could get it with their appearance options. Working on releases now. #buildinpublic
Didn't make as much progress as I wanted to today. But I did tighten up a few things related to the menus, and adjusted the artist onboarding progress indicator. Tomorrow hoping to properly dig into Stripe Connect. #buildinpublic
Got the first couple of pages of artist onboarding in today. Still working on the form for the basic info page, but it's not much more than what's there. Also will need to go back and add all the ToS stuff once I have it. I'm pleased with how this is looking. #buildinpublic
Ended up creating a separate project to do a proper testbed for my customized emails. But I'm much happier with how they look now. The user creation & sign-in is in a really good spot now. I also have an invitation system. Now for the artist onboarding.... #buildinpublic
Doing a bit of MxTp work this weekend. I created a little testbed where I can see emails as I'm designing them. Also implemented react email components so I could use my existing email functionality to send custom emails using tailwind. #buildinpublic
Was able to throw together a quick manager for generating and seeing active invitations in mxtp.gg. Just for me for now, but will probably extend this functionality to artists in the future so they can send them themselves. #buildinpublic
Worked most of the day on my new onboarding page. Still putting in the default username generator, but most of the pieces are there now. Also working on re-implementing the invitation system. #buildinpublic
I'll spend the first half of my day marketing sticker chart. I now have daily marketing activities built into my weekly notes template. This way I know what marketing to do each day. Today is a blog post, and a newsletter to go with it (though I have no subscribers atm).
I copied the landing layout I created from stickerch.art, cleaned it up a bit, applied a new theme, and now I have a landing page for mxtp.gg. It's not live yet as I'm still writing the copy. Attached is a preview though. #buildinpublic
I ran my existing landing page through Claude, and asked it to critique it, knowing who my target audience is. It gave me this diagram, along with some feedback about what exactly I was missing. I then went through, building out each section, before putting it all together.
(more pics attached here) This new page is WAY more verbose. It's just got a lot more copy on it. This is mostly for SEO purposes. I'm focusing on some specific keywords that I think my audience might be searching for, which I researched using google keywords planner.
Finished landing page updates for stickerch.art. I had some trouble with the FAQ and pricing sections yesterday, but I got that fixed. Attached are some before & after pics. The skinnier ratio ones are the befores. A bit about the changes below. 👇 #buildinpublic
For now I added an alert to the top of stickerch.art letting visitors know about the lead magnet. I'm going to be expanding the landing page copy at some point, and will include additional sections to call out the guide, but this will do for now. #buildinpublic
Yesterday's reel didn't move at all at first, but it slowly climbed overnight to over 50 views, and has continued to climb since. Also its % of views past 3 sec is MUCH higher. I've attached the stats from Monday's reel as well for comparison. #buildinpublic
My reel yesterday took off. However, it jumped to 300 views, then stopped completely. Is this because of lack of engagement? I think I need to shorten my reels and engineer them to get more engagement while still grabbing with a hook. #buildinpublic
Really excited to dig into this book today. I plan to use what I learn from this for the content I'm writing to post while I'm gone, to promote the sticker chart app. His podcast is excellent, so I'm looking forward to it. #buildinpublic
Confirmed that the auth callback endpoint is being called twice when I click the link in my email. I honestly don't know what is causing this, and it's pretty frustrating to encounter on a Thursday afternoon before a launch. #buildinpublic
My live site started throwing an error when I use the magic link via email to sign in. It seems like the auth callback is getting hit two times instead of once. The problem is the token has already been deleted, so an error is thrown the second time. Thoughts? #buildinpublic
Didn't make a ton of progress on the paywalling today.... But I did implement some new sticker choices! It's Friday afternoon, what can I say 🤷 #buildinpublic
Realized I spoke too soon earlier! I forgot to implement the dialog for when a chart is completed. 🤦 That's in now! #buildinpublic
Spent most of my morning tightening up some UI components, feedback during saves, cleaning up the editor toolbar a bit, added a legend, and adding the ability to delete charts. Still need to do the paywall, but I guess that's most of what's left at this point. #buildinpublic
