Patient sunset botany brings its reward: Night-flowering Catchfly, Silene noctiflora. And a few strange looks from local residents…
Missed #wildflowerhour while out walking over and under the viaduct at Brassknocker Basin near Bath this evening. I particularly enjoyed seeing Small Teasel, Dipsacus pilosus, beside the canal and river.
Loved seeing so much Sea Holly #stillflowering yesterday in the Llanelli dunes at #BSBI #ASM in Wales.
Fabulous drifts of Common Sea-lavender at peak flowering on botanical walk with SRPG at Clevedon Pill yesterday. #wildflowerhour
Common Cordgrass, Spartina anglica as seen with SRPG yesterday on saltmarsh at Clevedon Pill. I resorted to video because photography gave only a blur in the wind!
Peacocks showing off and enjoying the empty hot evening streets of #Corsham, #Wiltshire
Cheddar Bedstraw, Galium fleurotii in its typical rocky habitat in Cheddar as seen with #SomersetRarePlantsGroup yesterday. No longer treated as a subspecies of Galium pumilum, Slender Bedstraw.
I missed #wildflowerhour but here is Cheddar Pink from Sunday’s walk with the Somerset Rare Plants Group.
A little family grouping of Sand Cat’s-tail, Phleum arenarium at Minehead today. #wildflowerhour
Sand Catchfly, Silene conica as seen with Somerset Rare Plants Group at Minehead today. Where we froze and were sand- and wind-blasted in our botanical madness. #wildflowerhour
David Attenborough’s 100th birthday 🎂 is being celebrated like a royal occasion in Melksham, Wiltshire.
Missed #wildflowerhour again, but here is my late contribution: Wood Sorrel.
Wood Speedwell, Moschatel, Three-nerved Sandwort, pristine Goldilocks Buttercup, Greater Stitchwort and Early Purple Orchid seen in Wiltshire with #WiltsBotSoc at weekend
I missed #wildflowerhour on Sunday as busy with family, but I really must share my first sightings of Solomon’s Seal seen with #WiltBotSoc on Saturday.
A surprisingly pristine Goldilocks Buttercup at Ebbor Gorge, Somerset #wildflowerhour
I always look forward to my annual native Bluebell fix every spring 😍 #InternationalPlantAppreciationDay
I couldn’t resist taking these photos today after pulling into a lay-by to eat my lunch. Wood Anemones are always a bit special. My first sightings of the year.
Cowslip, Primula veris, Legend says it grew where St Peter dropped the keys to Heaven #wildflowerhour #storyplants. Seen for first time this year in Shapwick, Somerset today.
While I was sat in my car eating my lunch today near Gloucester a little Goldcrest came and sat on my car bonnet.
Rue-leaved Saxifrage (Saxifraga tridactylites) flowering comfortably on its bed of moss on a local traffic island #wildflowerhour
Glory-of-the-snow, Chionodoxa or Scilla now flowering in my front lawn
Lesser Celandine putting in an appearance today in Melksham, Wiltshire. Not in abundance yet, but good to see it back with a promise of spring. #wildflowerhour
