It's not by chance that Israel's government is waging all-out war against the European Union and its member states.
This is the world's largest aggregate of democratic countries, and most of them seek to be liberal democracies. Europe remains interested in the Palestinians, still cares about international law and still
believes in justice.
Ukraine wants to belong there, but Israel under Netanyahu is moving in the opposite direction. Consequently, Netanyahu's cheering section is always accusing Ukraine of "voting against us at the UN," or voicing some other wretched excuse for why Israel shouldn't cultivate ties with it.

Israel and Ukraine could have been complementary partners on many issues
- security, high tech, tourism and research. But this didn't happen. Aside from Netanyahu's negative attitude - he shuns Zelenskyy like fire - this is also due to an erroneous preconception.

Israel still sees Russia as a superpower, whereas it sees Ukraine as a negligible eastern European country that can be elegantly ignored. But Ukraine's army is now the largest and most skilled in Europe, while its defense exports have become sought after throughout the world.
At a time when the Gulf states, Europe and the United States are all in talks with Kyiv about buying its sophisticated weapons systems, which provide a response to the drone threat, Israel's government under Netanyahu would rather ignore those achievements to avoid harming relations with Russia - which is Iran's close partner and shares intelligence and military technology with it.

Tbf that Haaretz article is by an Israeli IR scholar who is pro-Ukraine.

The main difference between Ukraine and Israel lies in the story they tell the world. Ukraine has a story the world understands: defending its sovereignty and regaining its territory. Even if its objectives are controversial (returning to the 1991 borders versus accepting the cease-fire lines), they are easy to define.
In Israel's case, the picture is complex and ambiguous:
Destroying Hamas? Replacing the government in Gaza? Disarming Hezbollah? Deterring Iran?
Preventing the establishment of a Palestinian state?
And there is an even more profound difference:
Ukraine is the occupied party fighting to regain its land; Israel is fighting while controlling a civilian population of another people for over half a century.
Even before a word is said about policy, the starting point of the two stories is different.
