The 4 alternatives for Reimagining WI-175 are in. WISDOT indicate that public feedback has essentially ruled out the replace in kind option (yay!), and strongly prefers the "End Middle" and/or "End South" options. I agree, despite major quibbles with some design choices, esp the Cul-de-sacs. #MKE

"Just one more lane, bro!" Shenandoah mountain style! Virginia has about 325 miles of interstate 81, and the counties it goes through don't even get to a million people combined. Congressman Ben Cline just proposed widening the entire stretch from 4 to 6 lanes. a ~20 Billion dollar project???

Today, I testified before the House Transportation and Infrastuture Committee to advocate for Interstate-81 the construction of a third lane along the entire 300-mile length of Interstate 81 in Virginia.
“Most notable for the region I represent is I-81, a road that stretches the entirety of my district from Frederick County in the North to Roanoke County in the South. With this vital roadway spanning six states, over 300 miles of which are in Virginia, I have continuously worked for improvements to I-81 “

AADT Estimates by Region
Tennessee border area (Bristol/Abingdon): 32,000 to 40,000 vehicles.
Wytheville area: Traffic volumes drop to a low of approximately 23,000 just west of Wytheville, but rise at the I-81/I-77 overlap to about 46,000.
Christiansburg to Salem: Volumes generally range from 38,000 to 43,000.
Roanoke area: This section has some of the highest volumes, around 50,000 to 52,000 vehicles per day.
East of Roanoke to Lexington (I-64 interchange): Volumes are around 30,000 to 33,000.
I-64 overlap section: Volumes are relatively consistent at 32,000 to 34,000.
Staunton to New Market: Volumes increase again, ranging from 38,000 to 44,000.

In 1975 dollars, the bridge cost $75M. (That's $450M in 2025) In 2010, HTNB estimated a rebuild in 2053 would be $450M in 2010 Dollars. Such a projection is pure optimistic fantasy. Does anyone think it could be done for less than $2B in 2025 dollars? $2B for 35,000 ADT is insanity.

The current configuration option is expected to have very little maintenance costs after the 2025
reconstruction of the Lake Interchange. Due 10 the maintenance costs of the lift bridge, the
differences in the Life cycle cosLs will narrow over the long term. The at-grade option will need Full
rehabilitation in 2042 al a cost of S23 million, bringing the cost of the two options even closer.
At the tem1ination of the lifo-.:yde cost analysis in 2053, the current configuration option replacement
costs are estimated at $425 million, but there is remaining value for each option after 2053. The atgrade
option has 37 years remaining in its design life at 2053. 'fhe new Hoon Bridge replacement in
2053 will have 74 years remaining, which is represented by the dip in costs at the end or the graph

The one thing missing from the conversation about the future of Milwaukee's 794 downtown freeway spur, and the potential for removing it, is the inevitability the the Daniel Hoan bridge is going to come down in 2053.

If you’re gonna build a city on ranch land in the middle of nowhere: pick this place. No CEQA or zoning! 6 senators. 3 house seats. 10 electoral votes (that = WI) Make sustainability a key priority: low water impact, wind/solar/geothermal power , great transit, no private cars, etc. Just sayin.

I mean, the snowmelt system in Holland, MI off the power plant there melts snow a mile away. 95 deg F Water goes through tons of plastic tubing to melt about an 1"of snow an hour at 20 deg F. Depending on the cooling system, some can output water between 100-140.
