The Bench Needs Your Help

Today, The Bench is reaching out to our community with great concern and an urgent request for support.

We are currently facing significant challenges in providing the hot meals, healthy alternatives, and pre-packaged food items that so many members of our community depend on. Recently, The Bench was contacted by Public Health and was required to immediately discontinue the distribution of home-cooked meals, pre-made sandwiches, and baked goods that were not prepared in certified commercial kitchens or under approved food-handling standards.

While we fully understand and respect the importance of food safety, this change has created a major gap in the services we are able to provide. Many of the people we serve expressed disappointment today, sharing how important fresh sandwiches, hot meals, and baked goods have been in helping them maintain a balanced and nourishing diet. Our table was noticeably missing many of the staples that have become such an important part of our outreach.

We are asking our community, local restaurants, churches, businesses, and community organizations to come together and help us find solutions so that The Bench can continue operating while still providing hot meals and healthy food options to those who need them most.

We would like to extend our sincere appreciation to The SEED and the Guelph Food Bank for their support and for helping provide healthy alternatives during today’s session. We would also like to thank City Pizza ❣️ and Stan Bunston ❣️ for the preparation and delivery of twenty pizzas that were distributed to community members throughout the day.

Most importantly, thank you to our dedicated team of volunteers who continue to show up with compassion and commitment. Your efforts make all of this possible—one day at a time, one meal at a time, and one smile at a time.

Together, we can find a way forward and continue serving those who rely on The Bench.
