The subject of my water tower painting (Centennial Mills warehouse in the #Portland #PearlDistrict) burned down yesterday. Kinda sad. Feels like something is lost. I feel like I get to know a subject when I paint it because I’m so intensely focused.

I tried to push the color saturation on this portrait. Blocking in with complementary purple and yellow ocher. In the reference photo, I love how Carla’s hair is slightly disheveled (we were hiking) and blowing in the wind. I tried to catch that vitality in the painting. 12”x9” Oil on panel
Sorry for the non-art post. We are winding down on our spring and summer projects (So, I can start painting again!). We should be finished with our new pergola and deck within a week! (Cuss-o-meter rating: 10! 😫)
