I think there should be an unofficial vetting (aha) policy involving randomly handing politicians* a cute animal and gauging their reaction on warmth and genuineness. Like this: *no GOP. Animals don't deserve that shit.

I wouldn't be surprised if this is some Trump crony's slipshod work. I was looking at photos of people putting up v taking down Trump's name on the Kennedy Center, and in one, a guy in a sling, who looked like the supervisor, was up in a cherry picker with no harness.

I was very impressed by Hungary's treatment of the relics of Soviet dominance. They preserved some art at a separate location (Memento Park). And they added "Stalin's Boots", to commemorate what was left of a huge statue of Stalin after the 1956 uprising. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stalin_...

And under Trump, OSHA (already underpowered and reined in) is being hamstrung. Like, they're coming for the General Duty Clause, which would potentially require employers to protect against the obvious risks of heat even without a specific regulation: www.osha.gov/heat-exposur...

Can YOU, yourself, looking at this video, read the print? Not "does this look familiar". If course it looks familiar. It's an amalgam of very common styles. That's how generative AI works. But can you read the print? It should be fairly clear at that distance, and yet is a blur of gibberish.

The administration is also planning to include in the bag a report by Mr. Trump's 1776 Commission, which was released at the end of his first term as a part of a response to antiracism protests in 2020.

They will also receive a packet of literature that provides a sanitized, Trump- approved view of American and South African history, one that criticizes racial equity and civil rights laws and promotes claims of discrimination against white people.

The welcome bags include a report commissioned by Mr. Trump during his first term that downplays the role of slavery in the country's founding, and a children's book accusing South Africa's government of "favoring the Black population."

The gifts would be the latest step by the Trump administration to welcome the white minority in South Africa, even as the president maintains a ban on refugees fleeing from war and persecution everywhere else in the world.

The proposal for the bags is still being finalized. Mr. Trump's aides have planned to give them to a group of South African Afrikaners who enter the United States in the coming weeks, according t government documents obtained by The New York Times and an official familiar with the matter.

Facts matter. Journalism matters. Being truthful matters.
That was my message on Friday, and now it's being twisted to fit whatever ideology people want. I was not going to speak on the virality of my farewell message and hoped the interest would fade. But now, seeing multiple publications twist my words into unintended meanings, I feel I must set the record straight.

First, I was not quitting on-air. I decided with my wife months ago, and the station had the job posted months ago. Second, I was not blasting the news station or the news industry. I was simply explaining my approach to journalism and reminding everyone why we do what we do.
Finally, I was not fired or forced out. Again, this was a hard decision for me, but one that will allow me to follow a dream I've always had. I understand my future plans are vague. That's on purpose, as I am not at liberty to fully discuss what I am doing next.

These are actually pretty simple (just a colored ring, no attempt at patterning; see pic), but I do wonder if they used gold lacquer, and these probably were pretty thick relative to modern, which would make them super uncomfortable. Kudos go to the actress! This might be why her eyes are so wide.
