Here’s a #portrait of Mantan Moreland who was one of the first successful African American actors in Hollywood. I watched a few of his movies yesterday and thought he was pretty funny. Also, as a fun fact, he was almost going to be one of The Three Stooges after Shemp died. #Art #Artist

Watching a couple of those really old voodoo movies. The guy playing the butler, Mantan Moreland, is pretty funny. Like yeah he’s pretty stereotypical which kinda makes you cringe but he has a level of dignity to him to the point where you think he makes the most sense in the movie.

Here’s a piece I did this morning of #HumphreyBogart. I finally figured out what style I want to go for. It’s basically what I was doing before, but with more of a #ArtDeco influence. #Art #Artist

Then I tried some more #ArtDeco stuff and I dig that way more. It has an overall look that just screams old-school but not stuffy. Kinda similar to #GermanExpressionism but a bit more exaggerated which I dig.

My ultimate goal with my #art, no matter what subject, is to communicate a vintage feel, I tried the COBRA stuff. It was cool but the more I experimented the more I just didn’t take to the process.

I came across an #art movement called CoBrA that speaks almost exactly my own language when it comes to how I think about this kinda thing. It’s about experimenting and being almost child-like in execution. Here’s a part of a portrait in the style by Karel Appel.

I actually relate to this. Having a rare genetic disease, when I was younger my parents were actually told I wouldn’t live passed 10. They started a foundation which has raised money for treatments and I’m now 34, mutherfuckers.
