When I started reading this last night, I thought, wow, this might be the best Frank Kane novel I've come across. And then about a third of the way in it all but collapses and becomes a different novel, mainly about bad high society relationships. Such a disappointment.

Reading Confirmed as by Donald Westlake, but even if it wasn't, it has his characteristic style. It's actually quite funny. If he'd published this 5 or 6 years later under his real name and a different title, nobody would have thought anything unusual.
