ICYMI: DeSantis took another L vs. the Constitution today. And academic freedom scored a win.
So a FL man, who rioted at the US Capitol on January 6 and was put back on the street by Donald Trump, went on to molest multiple middle schoolers. He tried to bribe those children into silence by offering them a cut of his piece of Trump’s eventual taxpayer-fueled slush fund.
"I want Ron DeSantis to know…that try as he might to silence us, to snuff out our joy, our pride, to crush us under the weight of authoritarianism, we're still in Florida. We're still here. We're still queer. It's still our state, too. And there's nothing he can do about that.”
Thank you to those who’ve reached out about this. Here’s the hard truth: I don’t really know how to feel.
Florida just cut off access to HIV treatment for 16,000 people. And they’re not alone. It’s not just cruelty…it’s a deadly public health crisis in the making. Resources for those directly impacted at the end.
This summer is ten years. Ten years since my best friends became missing faces. Since groupchats became disconnected numbers. Since a man turned our night out for drinks into 49 funerals. Ten years and Florida politicians keep looking for new ways to inflict pain.
About to join State of the People to talk about the state of OUR Union.
While a wildfire threatens their state, Kansas Republicans rammed through a bill to let weirdos stalk your daughter's bathroom stall to try and collect an anti-trans bounty. Remind me again who is obsessed?
If they’re too trigger happy to handle the streets of Minneapolis, why the hell are we sending them on an Olympic field trip? They should be asked for their papers and sent right back home.
Today, we get to host a retirement ceremony, presided over by General McChrystal, for 5 transgender servicemembers — whose total service eclipses 100 years and whose careers are being ended by Donald Trump. Simply because of who they are. @hrc.org
Will join @joyannreid.bsky.social in about an hour to talk marriage equality! www.youtube.com/watch?v=KsDN...
I’m coming home!! I’ll be in Eugene next week for a powerful conversation with University of Oregon (Sco Ducks) Political Science Department Head Professor Alison Gash and Chief Judge Michael McShane who, 11 years ago, struck down Oregon’s ban on same sex marriage.
Andry Hernández Romero is alive and was released from CECOT. It’s a relief that he won’t have to sleep in that hell hole tonight, but he should never have been disappeared there in the first place. He had a right to due process here. And we have no idea what awaits him back where he fled from.
Jailing doctors for providing the health care they've been trained to provide? What the hell are we doing?
You may not know: Medicaid is the largest payer of HIV care in the country. 40% of people living with HIV rely on Medicaid for their health care coverage. So…cuts to HIV prevention and care globally, cuts to CDC HIV prevention efforts, and massive cuts to the largest payer of HIV care in the US…
This cabal of corrupt elitists just ripped people from their doctor’s offices and took food off dinner tables so they can bankroll Jeff Bezos’ third tacky wedding and give ICE a budget larger than most militaries on the planet. It’s so sick.
“His erasure of the LGBTQ+ and Latino communities today may say a lot about what kind of person he is, but it doesn’t change the fact that those were the communities most directly impacted…that families have empty seats at dinner tables, friends have missing faces at birthday parties.
Nine years ago, a gunman tore through my neighborhood bar, Pulse Nightclub, and stole 49 people from us. I was lucky to make it out alive, but my best friends Drew & Juan never made it home to say goodbye. Nine years, but it hurts like yesterday. Please #HonorThemWithAction .
I’m just saying — we tried to warn them that renaming ships is very bad luck. Anyway, happy pride!
Good to run into a couple champions last night @algreen.house.gov @juliejohnsontx.bsky.social
Imagine the brain rot required to threaten to defund our most populous state, with a GDP larger than all but 3 countries on the planet, over a single teenager participating in long jump.
The Big MAGA Abomination is bad for so many reasons. But add this to your list: it ends the requirement to register the purchase of a silencer. “If the purchaser is not required to fill out a form with the ATF to purchase a silencer, it’s not clear how a background check would still be completed.”
Despite the illegal orders, Sharpie waving, and chaos coming out of the White House, the truth remains: This country does not and will never have a king.
True, actually. When I saw him in the Oval, President Biden spoke at length about the policy fight to combat gun violence — and then made sure I took a chocolate chip cookie for the road.
Andry Hernandez Romero is a makeup artist who fled persecution for being gay and sought asylum in this country. He has not been heard from since the Trump Administration disappeared him to El Salvador. Yesterday, HHS Secretary (and noted puppy killer) Kristi Noem refused to check if he is alive.
Throwing trans people under the bus isn't going to win you elections. But reminding people how creepy and unhelpful the town stall monitor is just might.
