This is why people stopped trusting "experts." No, our bodies didn't "win out" over the virus and our immune systems are not "taking it on." There are numerous studies that prove this is false, yet the endowed chair of public health at UMinn is saying it and this is what they're teaching students.

Michael Osterholm: No, I think we can safely say that we are now adjusting into a more routine cycle of infection. And you can argue that in several ways. First of all, there's a much greater stability to the virus that we see now with so much background immunity in the population.

It’s similar to previous influenza pandemics, which were the hallmark pandemics we had prior to COVID. Clearly, they were situations where once a large portion of the population either got infected and died or got infected and recovered, there was a level of protection that, over time, basically won out over the virus itself.

That's why you still see the virus circulating, but in a way that, genetically, our body's immune systems are largely able to take on. So again, if you look at the flu pandemics of the past, in every instance they just kind of faded away over time and became a background endemic disease.

And today we are in a much more steady-state existence with COVID because of our preexisting immunity and the relative lack of genetic change to the virus. We haven't watched it go from the ancestral strain to Alpha, Beta, Delta, Gamma, or Omicron, like we did in those first four years.

I keep seeing versions of this and I get the impression that people don't really understand what's happening. Within the party, DemSocs are contesting power, but the bigger struggle is ideological. Despite the fact that they're all capitalists, socialism itself is an existential threat to capitalism

In a statement, Iran’s foreign ministry said the attack today caused an explosion on the ship that killed one sailor and injured another.

The statement continued that the “Ukrainian regime’s attack on the Iranian commercial vessel in the Caspian Sea, which was explicitly acknowledged by the head of that regime, is a sign of the continuation of the irrational and hostile approach of the Ukrainian regime towards the Islamic Republic of Iran.”

As much as Platner himself is an abusive opportunist, his most vocal supporters are somehow even worse. Do not forgive these people and never forget all the things they said. This whole debacle has exposed "left independent media" for what it is: completely fraudulent and a giant grift.

@ryangrim: Platner’s source of strength was the people passionately committed to volunteer for him. On his campaign discord, people are sharing feelings of betrayal, heartbreak, and resignation. He has lost his base.

It no longer seems like a question of whether he will drop out, but when, and whether his campaign, by virtue of an overwhelming primary win, will be able to influence who replaces him.

You know, I can't help but remember what the Dems and the media did to Tara Reade, whose accusation against Biden was just as credible in 2020. Her mother had literally called into Larry King to ask what her daughter should do. Platner is absolutely guilty, and so was Biden. No consequences at all.

@greenwell: I have edited a lot of sexual-assault-accusation articles, and this one easily clears every veracity check: contemporaneous emails with her therapist, a boyfriend who knew, a woman she warned—all before Platner ran for office. Good on Politico for nailing it, and on Jenny Racicot for speaking up.

It doesn't sound like there's a deal at all. They have a tentative memorandum of understanding, which is very different from an actual deal. Nothing happens until the US follows through on its end of the bargain.

He also said that Iran included all “important positions” in the draft of the memorandum of understanding, adding that the text will be published after the official ceremony scheduled for Friday.

“This memorandum of understanding does not mean trusting the enemy,” Gharibabadi said in remarks carried by Tasnim news agency. “We will monitor the implementation of US commitments,” he said.
