In fairness, it was the fault of the particular era’s fashion that made it “aesthetically terrifying.” I mean a few years earlier, Joe looked completely badass. But always “very woke.”
Why are so many good new books about lesbians and why can I not stop reading them all? So far, so good! #books #usethelibrary
Sometimes I think I’ve become a #Boston local and other times, I feel like a real foreigner. 🤷🏻
Need to learn more about Milton Saul & Claude Fredericks, a young gay couple as featured in Francesca Wade’s Gertrude Stein: An Afterlife, who started Banyan Press in 1946, and whom Carl Van Vechten referred to as the “Banyan Tots,” seen here.
NYTimes, in your daily email, why take cheap shots at academics and students? What an odd and outdated binary. Some profs and students can write clearly and with wit, too. Check out some university press books as proof!
Said goodbye to this perfect pup exactly one year ago today. Almost 14 years with him. Still miss him everyday if I’m being honest.
Just finished Such Times, a ‘90s AIDS novel by Christopher Coe, just published anew by @archwayeditions.bsky.social. It’s a sweet, tragic story and worth a read. I continue to be interested in the book history of AIDS and nyc publishing. Who were these editors taking a chance on such stories?
I may be late to this particular title, but I’m so glad I found it anyways, and I urge anyone who hasn’t to read it. Immediately. @aaknopf.bsky.social
Just watched this #BroadCity episode and laughed hysterically at this moment but also is this how we all kinda feel rn? Like we made it as a society let’s gooooo BAM oh god no.
Give me a mayor not afraid to bring their baby right up on stage as they talk mitigating global warming across the city, like real, on-the-ground policy. Good talk, @mayorwu.boston.gov, here at UMass Boston.
Looking forward to not buying anything from corporations tomorrow (Fri, 2/28) and when going to small businesses, only using cash! Please join the movement! (Image courtesy of @rbreich.bsky.social substack)
Great event for UMass Boston Prof Joseph Cooper’s new @rutgersupress.bsky.social book, Black Sporting Resistance. He is now editing a brand new @umasspress.bsky.social series, Sport for Social Change, just getting started. Send inquiries!
Impossible that it’s now been five weeks plus without this perfect little being 💔
Said goodbye to this beautiful boy / old man earlier in the week and my heart is truly broken. Melville, you little rascal. 2011-2024 💔
See you this Wednesday, Amherst College! I’m looking forward to this convo!
“The Other Black Girl” on Hulu, a show set in a modern day NYC book publishing office, wherein a new black employee mentions location of her previous job at a lit mag and gets this reaction.
