Passionate about groceries. Also books and cooking and dinosaurs and bronze age history. Magic: The Gathering freak. 43. They/She.
New books! Parable of the Sower and Parable of the Talents by Octavia E. Butler, Seasons of Glass & Iron by Amal El-Mohtar, and Plastic, Prism, Void by Violet Allen.
I feel like I looked moderately cute for Pride day(s) at work today.
Just finished The Republic of Memory by Mahmud El Sayed, which was excellent but ended on a quite frustrating cliffhanger, and now I don't know what I'm in the mood for next.
Two very different styles of bird watching are emerging.
A good thing about being off early in the afternoon is being home in time to watch my cats being EXTREMELY interested in the birds that are building a nest (apparently!) in one of my fuchsias six feet away from the cats. They look like they have notes.
So many preorders came in today, but also I just started reading something else fantastic (The Warrior Queen: The Life and Legend of Æthelflaed, Daughter of Alfred the Great). Sad!
Pumping what I am guessing is m the last tank of gas I'll ever pump for under $4/gallon. Gas is definitely going up more than 2 cents by next week.
Finally settled on my spring hair color. A sort of periwinkle, which I wasn't sure about at first, but I got a ton of compliments on it at work today, so it's growing on me.
I have been wanting to build a mono-green deck for a while, and I just have had the hardest time finding a green commander that I was excited about, and now this fellow has appeared. I'm HYPED to get my hands on him.
I fucking love the whole experience of lunch fajitas and margaritas. What a great choice every single time.
Man, remember when we were kids and the adults were all like "think of the burden our grandchildren are going to have to bear!"
It's going to be so funny when I pull this baby out while playing my Sokrates, Athenian Teacher deck, which is basically just artifacts/thopters with a kinda old-timey steampunk vibe.
Okay, this is extremely nasty. Wow. Just absolutely busted.
As formative as Vonnegut was for me, I've never read Player Piano. It feels like the time.
Bought this cute heart-shaped Barilla pasta to make for some snow day eve comfort food. Noticed this on the side as I was throwing away the box and I would do a murder if someone gave me a box of Barilla pasta for Valentine's Day.
Built a Grub, Storied Matriarch deck with what I had laying around at home this morning, and I had forgotten how much fun goblins are. Cannot wait to tune and upgrade this.
Nothing I buy for Spot could ever give him as much joy as just sitting on the wrapping paper once we're done opening presents.
Looks like my final read of 2025 is going to be the original (maybe?) pandemic book. It's somehow comforting to me that we have this book now, all these years later. It's nice that we can see how folks were coping with past apocalyptic events through art.
Sometimes I look at my cats and think, "man, I wish someone ten times MY size would spend a half hour a day giving ME a full body rubdown."
Getting off the Internet for the morning to read this book about the apocalypse to take my mind off the apocalypse we're actually living through.
Finished the first color on a new embroidery project, vacuumed and dusted really well, cleaned off the dining room table and made a big pot of chili for dinner.
Just finished What Feasts At Night by T. Kingfisher, and these books are the perfect bite-size spooky reads. Cannot wait for the next one.
How many flavor atrocities will the brand be allowed to commit before we stop letting them call themselves "Lesser" Evil?
