Forthcoming: Joe Biden's Memoir 'Promise Me, America'
PROMISE ME, AMERICA, Joe Biden's memoir of his four years as president, will be published by Little, Brown on November 17. The publisher writes that the book, "details the challenges he faced, both at home and across the world, at a moment of maximum consequence, as well as the decisions he made and why he made them." It is Biden's third book, after PROMISES TO KEEP and PROMISE ME, DAD.

Biden said in a video announcement, "PROMISE ME, AMERICA is about the challenges we faced as a nation. It’s about the decisions I made and why I made them. It’s about getting the country through Covid, rebuilding our economy, and restoring our democracy after the attack on January 6th; ending our nation’s longest war in Afghanistan, strengthening NATO and supporting Ukraine. It’s about why I chose to run for re-election and why I chose to step aside,"

I became obsessed with the West Pier in Brighton as a child visiting family in England. Thirty years later, very little still stands of the original structure. Its skeleton is breathtaking at sunset.

“Thank you,” I said instead of ‘Why are you here without a date?’

He arched a thick brow. “For what?”

For noticing I needed a friend. For pulling me out of my rumination. For giving me something to think about instead of how no sibling would make a speech like yours at my wedding — the wedding that I would never have because I didn’t want a wedding, but if I wanted a wedding.

For looking like liquid temptation poured into a finely tailored suit.

I settled on, “For never calling me mother again.”

His laugh crackled like snapping firewood, hot and startling. Embers scorched my throat. It was a man’s laugh.

“Do you prefer mommy?” That wolfish smile was back. His canines glinted in the lantern light.

I pretended to consider it, watched him suck on the vape and spill fog from those gorgeous lips. “Allison suits me best, I think.” If my voice was all throat, he didn’t comment.

“Allison.” He turned the words over like he could taste each syllable. Oh yes, I liked the sound of it in his mouth. “I think I can manage that. But only if you call me Robin.”

Robin. His real name suited him more than the nickname I’d known him as for a decade. Robin was quick, grown, an elegant troublemaker. Robin wasn’t a little brother, he was a man in his own right.
