Day 31 #30dayswild is my yearly tribute to my beautiful friend Lisa Barrott (1964 - 2024). Through #30dayswild she shared her love of wildlife, her eye for detail, sense of humour and desire to protect nature and this beautiful world. She was inspiration and I miss her 💚
#30dayswild Day 30 - love my somewhat delinquent garden and all the wildlife (apart from the slugs) and flowers that have chosen to share our little patch of land.
#30dayswild Day 29 - Grateful to Monmouthshire County Council for supporting biodiversity and leaving lots of lovely long grass in the park for Hoverflies, Ringlet butterflies, ladybirds and the dapper common red solider beetle.
#30dayswild Day 28 - Bindweed is my nemesis, but structurally, its flowers are extraordinary, not to mention its speed of growth and ability to climb.
#30dayswild Day 27. Enjoyed some 'Protest & Peace Pallet Craftivism' @hazelnutcommunity.bsky.social Community's Soulstice festival organised by our Young Eco-Champions.
#30dayswild Day 26 - celebrating that it's only 23°outside at 11pm 🥳 and enjoying the beautiful evening scent of our cream jasmine.
#30dayswild Day 25 - The hottest UK day ever . Two Tawney owls are twit-twit-twitting somewhere beyond our back garden.
#30dayswild Day 22 - a Silver Y moth, with fast fluttering wings, and sleeping flowers.
#30DaysWild Day 23 - Plants enjoying a tropical 26° thunderstorm - refreshment before rising heatwave.
Upstairs windows also possible - I have hooked a king-size duvet over the too of the window and then shut it. For the windows where half the window doesn't open, I've made a channel for a baton of wood to hold up the unsupported side.
#30DaysWild Day 24 - Great Barnet's Wood, early morning, before the heat of the day.
#30dayswild Day 21 - planting polinator-friendly flowers around our squash arch at @hazelnutcommunity.bsky.social Garden.
#30dayswild Day 20. A spectacular Purple Toadflax has popped up in the front garden whilst we've been on holiday. Plus startled a Large Yellow Underwing whilst watering the garden. Its woody camouflage disguises the bright yellow flashes under its wings.
#30dayswild Day 19 - lovely young stoat took a good look at us, and didn't seem to realise he was meant to run away from people and dogs. #woolercommon
#30dayswild Day 18 - So many tiny flowers high up on Wooler Common - Heath Bedstraw, Wild Thyme, Mouse-eared Hawkweed, English Cinquefoil, Heath Speedwell and Field Forget-me-not (along with Heather, gorse, Common Harebell)
#30dayswild Day 17 - amazing variety of seaweed on Low Newton Beach on a gloriously sunny day.
#30dayswild Day 15 - steep and glorious pollinator-friendly garden in Berwick-upon-Tweed.
#30dayswild Day 14 - A bird in the hand is worth many distant sightings. (Lindesfarne: starling, meadow pippet, blackbird, sparrow, swallow, swift, cormorant, crow, jackdaw, skylark, ringed plover, eider duck, egret, black headed gull, collared dove, pigeon, pied wadtail, lapwing, oystercatcher).
#30dayswild Day 13 - Razorbill aerial maneuvers on a blustery day at Dunstanburgh Castle (also Fulmer, Kittiwakes, Gannets and Eider Ducks).
#30dayswild Day 12 - bees loving these gorgeous lupins planted at the edge of a field.
#30dayswild Day 11 - Lovely to see a decent native hedge, laid at the boundary of a new estate in Lowick.
#30dayswild Day 10 - Loving the fluffy pink beech nuts forming on this huge copper beech tree. Wonder how old it is?
#30dayswild Day 9 - Even the 208 tonnes of Angel of the North steel provides a wildlife habitat...
#30dayswild Day 8 - visited my 102 year old aunt and admired her glorious wildflower lawn.
#30dayswild Slugs at dusk - long & thin / short & fat - cold, wet June evening.
#30dayswild Day 6 - Loving Holmfirth's edible community garden, encouraging sustainable growing and giving away free food. Every town and village should have one.
#30dayswild Day 5 - Bumblebee wildflower garden heaven at Edgar's Place, New Mill, Holmfirth.
#30dayswild Day 4: Tutsan / Sweet Amber (Hypericum androsaemum) has appeared in my flowerbed. I think it's rather lovely, with its cheerful flowers and berries, so it can stay, as long as it behaves itself.
#30dayswild Day 3 - A blustery woodland walk and the sad demise of another huge Ash giant to Ash Dieback 😥.
