The new trees in Ipswich - paid for by a govt grant - are contained in planters designed to send the roots down first before they fan out.

Sort of. The term "the North" using a capital N is commonly used as a shorthand to mean the north of England region, just as the 'west country' doesn't mean Wales and technically, the Midlands should be Yorks/Lancs as geographically that would be correct, but few if any are confused by that.

While that's true to a certain extent, there have been huge advances in wind and solar, even in the last several years, as well as batteries, that make it much more cost effective today as an alternative.
