Kane constantly dropping deep is a huge problem against better possession-based opposition, for a team with a bad habit of getting too deep. Exhibit A:
He’s talking about the ~12 mins between 1-0 & hydration break when TT started making defensive changes. Argentina only hit the post after Konsa came on right? And there is nothing wrong with the close control and passing of these defenders (obvious where the problem is).
Argentina had a ten minute spell of pressure, during which England also had three attacks / shots; hardly terminal. If you watch it back, the “get rid culture” is 90% stemming from one player in particular… Everton fans are adamant Tuchel told him to do this 🤷🏻
Sorry it’s not true that everyone was going long if you look at passing stats. But yes, I accept we don’t know what the instructions were.
Come on… on what planet is this a better group of players than now? And anyway yes Southgate was basically an unqualified coach at the top level; the FA has brought in a supposedly proven winner on a huge salary and he’s no better (in fact worse I would say)
Yes I know 🇦🇷 care a lot about the issue in general. This is what GL said… in context of the rivalry between the countries he’s just acknowledging what they call it… I would agree we shouldn’t just use Malvinas on its own
I don’t know what you’re basing that statement on. This is from Age Uk. The minimum wage *should* be higher than the state pension shouldn’t it?
Yes you’re right on principle. But it feels like the fees we are getting on players who are sold are pretty low. This was an especially poor effort surely.
Q for @footballcliches.bsky.social but I think rules for Comm Shield, FIFA Intercontinental Cup(?) & UEFA Super Cup are basically; (a) If you’ve won nothing else, you can’t count it as a trophy (b) If you have won the league and/or UCL you can, and add it to your list of trophies won
This absolute nonsense from @jameshorncastle.bsky.social which was disappointing
This kind of thing… I hadn’t noticed he’d left the Times though tbh! Not sure what he’s been doing for the last year
Assuming this figure is accurate, it’s way more than an Aussie broadcaster would ever pay regardless of time zone. Also has to be free to air in Aus. I still wouldn’t say the ECB is “reliant” on India… the bulk of their income is from Sky.
Just pointing out the irony of Villa fans trying to discredit a club which has outperformed 4 rivals who spend more, while celebrating beating up a team of German farmers with a fraction of AV’s budget. This is total transfer spend since Arteta’s first summer 👍
Emirates had us over a barrel in 2006 and we tied ourselves into a pretty pathetic long term deal just as the sector was exploding But apparently stadium naming rights in EU are just not super valuable. hard to see KSE throwing away potentially £10-15M/year for what they’d see as no benefit though
To be fair to the ref, that’s not what the law says (although I agree it would normally be given as a handball in most cases)
That being said, why the fuck to Rice, Saliba and Gabriel repeatedly put their arms round opponents? Case in point here. Seems to be asking for trouble to me, but they do it so consistently I can only assume the coaching staff have told them to do it because they think they can get away with it?
😂 both of them look alive, well and standing to me. The Bayindir incident was nothing like this one… more like West Ham blocking off Pickford for Soucek’s first goal two weeks ago which nobody questioned.
Yeah. Fans might not like it but the actual refereeing policy is that holding / grappling between outfield players in the box is basically 99% allowed. Look at Bernado last Monday, O’Nien in Struijk, Fernandes on Barry etc etc… they’re just not giving penalties for it.
be serious… Summerville is wrestling Rice just as much; that’s never getting called. And Mavropanos is not impeded (watch the video). Neither is anywhere close to the contact of Fernandes vs Everton 2 weeks ago which, as I’m sure you remember, was not given as a foul!
Yes Arsenal try to do whatever they can get away with at corners. But I promise you an Arsenal player has not done anything as blatant as this to an opposition gk on a corner. I’d be stunned if any attacker from any club has got away with something comparable in the PL this season.
Which is a great strategy when you have a compliant press who will literally depict the other guy as scary for you. Not sure immigration’s the “cornerstone” of Starmer’s (non) campaign, but anyway Cameron saw NHS could be a weak spot & tried to neuter that by ringfencing £ & tried to be “trusted”
That’s a factor sure (as is the 5th UCL spot for 2 leagues) but isn’t it mostly that PL financial power is telling more and more? Looking at prior finalists; Spurs destroyed Frankfurt last ssn, and Sevilla/Villarreal far weaker now.
I agree with a lot of what you’ve said, but; 1. a lot of well off ppl are motivated by xenophobia & actually want *less* welfare / services spend 2. how much of it is actually the government’s fault / could they have reasonably been expected to have fixed in <2 years?
Well they say it’s “simplified” rather than more voluminous but yes. Maddening how UEFA just ignore this bit
