Semi-retired GP, appraiser, Chippenham Town Board and Medical Officer, Surrey CCC ex-General Committee, CPFC ST holder, Bath Rugby ST holder, Doorway Wiltshire.
SLPS; Chippenham Town 1 Yate Town 1 (HT 0-1); att 813. V good crowd for midweek (Yate prob brought 200). CTFC pretty awful 1st half, conceding from a corner in 45+4; then much improved 2nd half, hit bar, saves, glaring miss, then Martell Taylor-Crossdale shot home in 90+3. Fair point overall.
Huge pleasure to have Becky as my guest in the Committee Room at the Oval today, for One-Day Cup match against Kent. Our oldest rivalry, dating back to 1709. Great crowd of 6872, & ultimately a comfortable win for the Rey. Becky had a good chat with John Salako. #surreycricket
National Village Cup SF. Goatacre CC v Blackheath CC Surrey. Sadly not to be a 3rd appearance in Final for Goatacre after winning in 1988 & 1990. Well beaten by 127 runs. TBH Blackheath always seemed that bit more chirpy & energised. Good luck to them in the final vs Cuckney CC
White rabbits everybody. Have a good one including the start of the footbsll season. We're OK with the CPFC calendar this month. December will be a problem... #cpfc #coldwarsteve #petermayboys #whensaturdaycomes
Had a wonderful time in Sedbergh. There's a threadbare squad (17 [SEVENTEEN] lost to the Dumbdread, at least 4 lost to injury) playing for Surrey CCC in the Metro Bank One Day Cup. And yesterday, playing very well and achieving a rather surprising win in gorgeous surroundings.
Great (though very hot) fun at the @dublincastle.bsky.social this afternoon, where @attilastockbroker.bsky.social & John Otway revived moments from 'Headbutts & Halibuts'; then in part 2, a revival, 35 years on, of 'Cheryl - a Rock Opera'. Offensive about CPFC, Rotary Club, Tories & Satanists 😁
Tonight, at @RoughTrade Bristol, a record shop appearance & mini-gig (actually around an hour) from #PETNEEDS that had been postponed because Evelyn Marriott arrived very early. Many familiar Fractured Party People faces & great energy in the room (as well as a lot of heat...)
Enjoyable occasion at the Oval, 2nd Women's T20 WC SF, England v South Africa. Great atmosphere, record crowd of 21,128. England were in big trouble at 23-3, but Sciver-Brunt (75) & Knight (58) turned it around with a partnership of 156. SA never came close. #englandcricket
Good morning & white rabbits to you. At least the Palace calendar features somebody still playing in the World Cup. Have a great month. #cpfc #surreycricket #petermayboys #coldwarsteve #whensaturdaycomes
Thanks to Kieran, Kevin & Producer Guy for tonight's Price of Football quiz. Lower numbers, probably as partly clashed with Brazil v Japan, but high in quality, & great fun. My best ever performance, came 2nd, though as those there will know, that makes me a c......
The new #carterusm football shirt is based on the colour scheme of '1992 The Love Album', of course, but is also reminiscent of the Bosnia & Herzergovina flag since 1998 . An extra reason for me to buy it - a tribute to my great Mostar trip in February with #cpfc
After yesterday's debacle, life stirred for #surreycricket. On an enthralling & v hot day, they managed to bat, following on, all day, from 82-2 to 398-9, a slender lead of 145 runs. A ton at last from Rory. Probably won't be enough, but definitely a huge improvement.
Great company yesterday. Cricket somewhat less inspiring. And blooming hot. It was the second 'Day for Thorpey'. On two fronts, therefore, reminded of the importance of being able to unburden one's soul with mates. #englandcricket #dayforthorpey
Apart from the vile state of the Victoria Line, a pleasant evening at Walthamstow Trades Hall for Paul Talling's book launch for 'London's Dead Pubs', with many familiar faces from the walks. #paultalling #derelictlondon #londonslostpubs
The Meffs on excellent form tonight in Southampton, even by their own high standards. Also impossible-not-to-dance-to ska-punk in support from locals the Bob Cats. A good venue, tucked away in suburbia. #themeffs #thebrooksoton #bobcats #southampton #meffarmy
Last home game of the regular season. There may be a home game in the playoffs - today's result will decide that. Come on you Baaaaaaarrrth! #bathrugby #bellinnbath
White rabbits to you all. Welcome to the first full month of Palace holding a European trophy. Be happy and healthy this month ❤️ 💙 #cpfc #petermayboys #bathrugby #coldwarsteve #whensaturdaycom
Good hearty meal tonight at the end of a long and tiring day (much walking and sightseeing, of which more anon). In the lovely Nicolaiviertel, 'Zum Paddenwirt' (Toad Inn) gave us Berliner main courses and Viennese pud with great service. Spot on. #berlin #nikolaiviertel #zumpaddenwirt
We're on our way.... . #londoncityairport #cpfc #cpfceuropeantour #uefaconferenceleague #leipzig
Well done Living Well Bromley in Penge High Street. And very soon, I'm on my way! #cpfc #cpfceuropeantour #uefaconferenceleague #leipzig
Meeting Charlie today gave us a chance of a visit to the Mango Tree Nursery, a taste of some of the great work being funded around Cape Maclear by #changingstarsmalawi. Then a bumpy, as we knew it would be, to Zomba via Mangochi, Liwonde & Machinga to Zomba. #capemaclear #malawi
Yesterday afternoon, arrived at Thumbi View Lodge in Cape Maclear in time to book up a sunset and African Fish Eagle-watching boat trip. #capemaclear #lakemalawi #malawi
A very bumpy drive from Zomba to Liwonde National Park. Then a ferry from Charlie Charlie jetty to Kuthengo Camp Robin Pope Safaris, in time for a dusk game drive. Becky and Jen spent much of dinner talking about the trials and tribulations of PhD work. I listened.
Yesterday, Blantyre to Zomba, thence to Zomba Plateau. In Zomba we had a walk in the National Botanic Garden. Then, on the way up to the Plateau, v good Greek lunch at Kefi. After that up to the top, to Sunbird Ku Chawe. A walk down to Mulinguzu Dam then back up for spectacular views
Great start to our visit to Malawi. Off with books to Butterfly Foundation for Peace - we met the wonderful Maggie, who told us all about their work with street kids age 9 to 15. Then out for great Ethiopian meal at Habesha. Off to Zomba today. Cooler than I was expecting!
Lovely chat and drinks with Positive Pete after play, at the excellent brewery tap of the Castle Rock brewery. #castlerock #nottingham
And Quiet Flowed the Dom. Until 77, anyway. An enjoyable day in the sun, though much of it was hard work for Surrey. And much work still to be done. #surreycricket #nottingham
It didn't stay as nice as this. Trent Bridge always a lovely place to come to. Purple patches for Surrey at the start and for 4 overs shortly after tea, otherwise not doing too well having put Notts in. Notts 317-7 when bad light stopped play for the day a little early. #surreycricket
