Tacoma is dealing with its own homelessness crisis. While the city provides most shelter beds and services for Pierce County, an increasing number of people outside the city limits are using those resources. Mayor Ibsen’s administration explains how the city is working to address the problem.

It wasn’t just Ferguson respondents weren’t happy with. Only 1% of respondents said the state Legislature is doing an “excellent” job. Twenty-three percent said lawmakers were doing a “good” job, and 32% said they were doing a “fair” job. Another 34% said the Legislature was doing a poor job.
The Cascade PBS/Elway poll surveyed 403 registered voters across the state. Of those surveyed, 43% consider themselves Democratic, 19% Republican and 38% Independent. Only 32% of voters would rate Ferguson’s first six months as “excellent” or “good," while 31% said he was doing a poor job.

Today, the House of Representatives voted to rescind previously approved federal funding for public media. Federal support for public media costs just $1.60 per person each year. Eliminating this funding would have a devasting impact on local journalism, video series, events and more. A thread 🧵

How to address violence in & around Seattle schools is an open question. Students have lobbied the city & district to invest more in student mental health services while others are pushing to bring back police officers in schools. Some at Friday’s memorial argued it shouldn’t be either/or.
“On the day we’re supposed to be in the dark crying, we’re standing here … with the sun shining and the birds chirping,” father Arron Murphy-Paine said. Amarr was 17 when he was killed. Seattle police have not arrested any suspects for the crime. His family sued Seattle Public School in May.
