Some bands have already started releasing albums on cassette again! My husband bought me an old cassette player a couple of years ago because I’d bought a CD/record/cassette new release bundle and we only had the means to play the first two 😁

Trying not to care so much but still really struggling to get useful words out for either of my WIPs but I managed to have a bit of fun writing Pharazôn and Sauron sniping at each other. But in sharing this with some folk last night, I kinda forgot ‘tup’ is a VERY British word 😆

"Does something trouble you, majesty?" Sauron asked, remaining centred before the throne.

"The Elves," grunted Pharazon. "Again they demand the release of our long-term guest. And again, I anticipate you will dissuade me from feeding her to the fires."

"Your majesty is extremely wise. I am not finished with her, not yet."

Pharazôn hummed. "Still haven't managed to tup her, I see."

Lighting fast, Sauron surged upwards, his black hair and dark robes trailing like smoke behind him. The whites of his eyes disappeared, consumed by a deep scarlet. Snarling, his fingernails elongating, he grabbed Pharazon by the jaw and pulled.

"Do not dare to presume you know my intentions for the Elf," Sauron growled through sharpened teeth.

But then, a strange, regretful calm flickered across his face, black fading from the veins sprawling beneath the skin. "Forgive me, your majesty," he said, his grip loosening and arm falling by his side.

Pharazôn cleared his throat. He pushed his spine against the back of the throne, increasing his height as best he could. It would not do to appear weak and frightened. Especially now Sauron was in his confidence.

"Remember your vow, High Priest," remarked Pharazon. "You grovelled upon the ground for me, and then you pledged your service to me. That is the only reason I do not return you to the cells."

"And I am grateful," Sauron replied, opening his palms with another bow. "The Elf is... I fear she brings out the worst in me. She vexes me."

Mr. Catherloki came home with work swag today and decided I really need yet another notebook that I’ll probably write in twice and leave in a random place in our flat. (My hand complete with picky skin around my fingers - sorry, it’s a habit - to conceal his employer name.)

Was chatting to some folks about this recently. When I was 20-21, I wrote a Doctor Who crossover with Pirates of the Caribbean. Never finished it + scared to look at it - but I still have six chapters on my laptop. Huh. My SPAG is atrocious, but I've always been alright at characterisation!

Martha Jones, as usual, was the first to rush to the doors of the TARDIS. With a look of giddy glee across her face, she pushed open the police-box doors and readied herself to peer outside.

“I can’t believe we’re actually going to be in the Caribbean!” she said in a tone similar to a child who had just woken up on Christmas morning. Yet she did not step outside immediately. She looked over her shoulder, fingers still splayed against the TARDIS doors and her expression changed. The Doctor was faffing and he was faffing so much he’d not even managed to pull on his coat properly. One arm was still coatless, and pressing buttons on the TARDIS console. “Doctor!” Martha yelled, snapping him out of his trance.

“Yes, yes…the Caribbean, hooray all very exciting…” muttered The Doctor, slipping his arm into the sleeve of his coat and shrugging it onto his shoulders. He leant forward to stare at the image produced on the monitor, after yet more fiddling with buttons. His bottom lip curled and he wordlessly reached into his jacket pocket for his glasses, perching the thick rims upon his nose and squinting.

“Somethin’ wrong?” asked Martha, removing her hands from the doors and turning to place them upon her hips, arching an agitated brow.

“No, well technically, but no…” replied The Doctor, removing his glasses but keeping them in his hand at his side “it’s the right century, and this is the Caribbean but…” he paused and made a hmmph sound under his breath “it’s not looking very…Carribean-y out there,” he said, pressing more buttons and adjusting the view on the monitor. Martha rolled her eyes and stomped over to the console, hoping to shoot her best “this better be important” look but The Doctor was too enraptured by whatever he was looking at, or not looking at as it turned out.

“It’s…dark,” Martha stated flatly. “Where’s all this sun, sand and pirates that you promised me? Untouched by the western world you said, a kingdom for those without rulers you told me, immeasurable freedom you promised…”

“That’s enough Martha,” The Doctor said calmly, though with enough sternness in his voice to quieten his rather talkative companion. He held her gaze for a second or two and then allowed a cheeky smirk to creep across his face. Martha had to resist another roll of her eyes; she knew that look too well. It was the look of “I’m about to suggest something that will potentially get us into a lot of trouble” that she had come to appreciate…sometimes.

At first I thought, “but I’ve not been writing this fic for two years” and then I reread it and I know there’s a chance someone is just trying to make me feel better, but dozens of subscribers to this fic and I just wanted to feel seen. Idk who you are Doc, but you made me cry earlier.

There's been some weird takes on redemption stories I've read on here, like "the most successful redemption arcs are ones where the villain who's redeeming themselves dies in the end" or "redemption arcs are usually problematic because they choose villains who are too unlikable and whose crimes have been too unforgivable to be redeemed" or "redemption arcs can never work if they're kickstarted by a singular My God What Have I Done? ephiphany moment that leads to instant repentence and trying to change and do what's right - they can only be slow burns where the villain stays a jerk and keeps fucking up while starting to get it and improve themselves." And I legit don't know why online fandom has to be so weird about this topic.

Today, I learned a lesson in, "always reread your own fics, kids!" Especially if the one on the left is intended as a sequel to the one on the right! (At least I can solve this via shapeshifting/magic. Someone is restyling his hair because "reasons" in the next chapter, that's for sure!)

“Well,” said Sauron, arching a brown and turning to face Galadriel. “Alone at last.”

It was still a strange thing, to see such familiarity among the differences. She recognised much of his face, the same nose and jawline; the same eyes flecked with gold. He wore his hair longer than ever now, the raven locks tumbling past his shoulders and finishing in soft waves close to his waist.

Skilfully plucked from his fingertips, the heavens received a different scream, drifting through the open ceiling into the starless night. Sauron held her throughout, each exquisite tremor another offering he didn’t deserve.

“I will not allow you to debase me in this vile place,” Galadriel murmured against his throat. Copper streaked with gold slipped between her fingers as she swept the hair away from his ear, her lips brushing his jaw.

I'm not writing this fic in any sort of order... and this is only the second time I've decided to torment myself by going, "oh hey you know what would be FUN in your Second to Third Age AU? Gollum's POV!" (Walk with me here and what I'm doing with how the One Ring speaks to people, trust.)

Hungry. Hungry. Hungry.

All he knew was hunger, and thirst, and forgetting.

Sometimes he would stare at his mottled hands, the gold band shining upon his palm. Sometimes, the blood seeped from beneath it, channeled across the fine lines spreading into his fingers—impossible to wash off.

The trinket’s grip grew stronger. Strong enough that to wash those stained hands, he had no choice but to transfer it into the opposing palm, quickly dipping his blood soaked hand into the frigid water. After repeating the gesture, it was already too late.

Blood, dark as wine, gathered between his knuckles. It will never leave him, the life he’d taken.

In a quick blink, the red disappeared. Now, he ignored the gnawing pain in his stomach and simply traced the glittering band with a fingertip, its song growing louder between his ears.

Desperation and despair always won in the end. Reluctantly, he crawled deeper into the cave, his large eyes searching through the gloom. Fish often strayed into these parts. Or, if there was nothing else, many-legged creatures also crossed his path, their shells so hard his jaw ached.

For a time, he tried rats and rabbits. Until the day his stomach lurched and their small bones reappeared, the churn of viscera pink against the grey rock.

Sleep became a stranger; he dreaded taking even a single eye off his treasure. But sometimes, the Precious took pity.

On those days, he saw her. The Golden Lady kneeling and wiggling her fingers through a stagnant pool. She rarely spoke, only smiled reassuringly, her blue eyes shining.

“You must rest, poor creature,” she soothed, his head growing heavy after a meagre and quick meal. “It will not leave you, not yet.”

Took a lot more on my film camera but today, I went on a photography excursion that is technically not allowed (but nobody really cares and people explore this place all the time anyway!)
