Good to talk about the extaordinary Katherine Read with @ox.ac.uk Modern Languages alumna Fiona Bruce for #FakeOrFortune ⬇️https://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/m002zb3v/fake-or-fortune-series-14-2-a-passage-to-india
Are you aged between 16 and 25? Do you love reading? Could you read all the books on the Booker or International Booker Longlist and suggest which would be enjoyed by school pupils across the UK? If so, get in touch! #SchoolsLaureate
Since we are going wild for all things #Norman (and I for one will not be complaining), here is Christchurch's Norman House this morning early before my return to Oxford and the daily grind...
To counter the grey skies, a flashback to Rouen cathedral "impression ciel de printemps".
The Great Mosque at Kairouan. We were round the corner last week for a conference and doctoral seminar with the Association Tunisienne d'Etude des Lumières, the Association Culturelle de Kairouan and support from the Hazem Ben Gacem Oxford Tunisia programme. #OxfordModernLanguages
Specially for @drbibliomane.bsky.social, some wisteria in the spring sunshine.
For Y12 State school pupils interested in Languages and Linguistics, there is a taster session on 22 April at @ox.ac.uk at Lady Margaret Hall bookshelf.mml.ox.ac.uk/2026/03/04/m...
I have just read Adam Thirlwell's brilliant The Future Future (recommended by Marina Warner)
These imperfect pictures do not do justice to a memorable book launch with multilingual readings. Huge congratulations to @ellekeboehmer.bsky.social for Southern Imagining published by @princetonupress.bsky.social!
Very excited that an article about #KatherineRead prepared whilst I was @iashedinburgh.bsky.social has finally come out in The Burlington Magazine.
For obvious reasons I have a soft spot for this one which came out a few years ago...
Do you have what it takes to be a Franco-British Young Leader? Could you contribute to the relationship between France and the UK and benefit from joining a cohort of talented individuals from all walks of life? It could be the chance of a lifetime! francobritish.org/en/young-lea...
Are you a student who has read all the books on the 2025 Booker and/or international Booker longlists? If so I want to hear from you for a fun reading project. Please DM me.
Wonderful to be at @thebookerprizes.com dinner yesterday and it is always a treat to bump into the amazing Olivette Otele @historianmemory.bsky.social
Not the dreaming spires... but the view from my hotel this morning. Back to Oxford this afternoon! #ToitsdeParis
Hello everyone. All things 18th-century (literature, cultural history, letters, Marie-Antoinette, Liotard etc.)
It was possibly a bit much to expect The Odyssey inside (but I would even have settled for The Dunciad 😉)
On view at the Marie Antoinette exhibition in London, a famous Vigée Lebrun portrait of the queen.
I am very much hoping not to be out-bagged at the #MarieAntoinette exhibition at the Victoria and Albert Museum.
Good to meet @bbcnewsnight.bsky.social star broadcaster Clive Myrie as he received an honorary doctorate @ox.ac.uk yesterday (and I duly passed on the Boltonian greetings). Photo @dinahrose.bsky.social
Le monde irait peut-être mieux si la suggestion inscrite sur ce mur rouennais était mise en application... @metropolerouenn.bsky.social
