The data, reported by April 15, include small contributions that were not included in candidates’ itemized Federal Election Commission filings. Even with those additional small-dollar donations included, men have contributed more money than women to congressional candidates.

This week’s primaries brought historic possibilities and notable contests for women candidates, including Deb Haaland’s nomination for governor in New Mexico, a likely all-woman U.S. House contest in New Jersey, and Nikki Gronli’s Democratic nomination for South Dakota’s at-large U.S. House seat.

According to CAWP’s latest Election Watch, 72 women — 43 Democrats and 29 Republicans — have filed to run for governor thus far, surpassing the previous record of 69 set in 2022. Democratic women have also set a new record for gubernatorial candidacies, with filing deadlines still ahead in 7 states.
