"Lucille awoke to a weight on her chest that bounced up and down in excitement. She groaned, pale gold eyes fluttering open to the painfully bright light of dawn above her. Her little brother slowly came into focus, his wide eyes staring at her from far too close. He continued to jump on her, springing into the air and landing on her with sharp claws.

"Wake up!" Manx sing-songed, his gravely voice full of childish energy. "Wake up! We're gonna be late for father's lecture! He's talking about air travel today! I don't wanna miss it! Get up, get up! And you have so many jobs to do this week, we can't miss a single one! Lucille! Get! Up!"

Without waiting, he sprang off of her and onto a nearby rock. The blasted sun glistened off of his red scales, turning each one into treacherous pinpricks of ruby light. Light that still managed to find its way into Lucille's eyes, no matter which way she turned her head. A fresh shed tended to turn the kobold child into a fiery mirror ball, but in the..."

My spouse sent me this during a crash out and now I'm sobbing. How did I end up with such a kind, loving, considerate person? (For reference, I ran out of lithium and was unable to get a refill for about a week, so I've been...unwell lol.)

I'm dressing him up like a doll. WIP of Nox's new character sheet. Will I finish it before #artfight ? Who knows...

Work in progress of a character sheet. Three copies of the same pale blue tiefling. He has golden horns that curl around his head like a crown, along with golden hooves and pink hair. He has a long tail with a tuft of pink fur at the tip.

The first copy is wearing a dancers outfit including poofed pants and sleeves made out of a shimmery, translucent material and a lot of pink pearls.

The other two copies do not yet have their outfits.

Sometimes, one finds it easier to put things off rather than doing them.

It becomes easier and easier to simply forget to do a task. Oh, bollocks, one may think at the end of the day. I suppose I will just remember to do it tomorrow.

Except tomorrow never comes. The task in question is pushed off again and again until it is nothing but a tiny thought, a ghost of a goal. We continue on with our lives, never considering what could have been until it was far, far too late. We are lowered into the ground, or turned to ash, or eaten by a shark without ever doing that one, little task that we continued to put off.

This was what Viktoria Bitterleaf thought to herself as she stood in the doorway of her childhood home early one autumn morning.

Text from Chapter 2:

It was a bubble of sorts, one that she had never broken through before. Very few had since it was originally built. It was a wall of magic; old magic, older than her town. Older than every elf alive.

*"Beyond the wall is the world of man," Mirina said. Her hair had gone white in the last few years. Though her eyes were still bright, it was obvious that she was nearing the end of her life.

"Man?" Viktoria echoed. She sat on the floor of her great aunt's house. Outside, snow dusted the world, falling from the sky in fat flakes. A fire crackled happily in the hearth, flooding the small room with warmth and flickering light.

"Humans?"*

Text from Chapter 3:

Cautiously, Viktoria moved down the alley. The soft leather of her boots silenced her footfalls. She perked her ears slightly, taking in all of the sounds coming from the street. There were odd click click click noises, repetitive, echoed and layered, as though there were many different things making the same exact sound. People, too-she could hear the muddled human language, accent foreign to her. Music. Laughter. Animals.

It was suddenly too much.

Viktoria pressed herself against the brick of the building beside her. Her head swam, vision blurring. So many sounds, all of them new to her. All of them alien.
