ChaosKid@chaoskid1024· 1d Prototyping a new boss fight. I've been going back and forth on this one for a while but I think I'm finally getting somewhere I like!

ChaosKid@chaoskid1024· 8d Various new (and some old but fixed up) mechanics in Sugarland. Also, there's sound effects! I replaced the marshcats (they were marshmallow cats) with smore spring pads, and added a couple new sugary treats like donuts and gummy bears.

ChaosKid@chaoskid1024· 9d Back to game dev finally! This area felt lacking, so I spent a lot of time working on new enemies for it, including these little guys.

ChaosKid@chaoskid1024· 11d Short trailer for Depths, a 1-bit maze crawler horror game I made back in 2024 where you descend into an old, forgotten industrial complex.

ChaosKid@chaoskid1024· Jul 14 This background was a headache to program, but it seems to be working now... more or less. It's still a little flickery, but I'm pretty sure I know how to fix that.

ChaosKid@chaoskid1024· Jun 11 Very irresponsible thing for me to have done with a language I barely understand that could also totally brick my entire computer but I made a rudimentary snake game in bash.
I'll warn you, it's got a lot of flickering, though.

ChaosKid@chaoskid1024· May 29 The artwork's pretty lazy and placeholder-y right now, but I've been creating a sort of, like, Sonic special stage-esqe thing for Dreamscape, reinterpreting the player's moveset so they move *forward* rather than left or right. It's kind of trippy!

ChaosKid@chaoskid1024· May 26 Battle against claw machine. Took about three days, pretty happy with it I think. So, that's three bosses done now, and anywhere between three and five to go.
Day one was making a rough prototype, day two was drawing spritework, and today was sound effects.

ChaosKid@chaoskid1024· May 15 Album artwork I drew for BUMP, a collection of ReNoise works that should be coming out very soon on my Bandcamp and YouTube channel.

ChaosKid@chaoskid1024· May 12 Learned some bash scripting, made a really rudimentary local backup system. Way better than my previous "system" of just manually copy-pasting. I know there's probably software I could use to do this better but, honestly, this works well enough for me, especially with how small this game is.

ChaosKid@chaoskid1024· May 10 Another room I really like (recording's messed up for some reason but whatever).

ChaosKid@chaoskid1024· May 10 Had a busy month eaten up by schoolwork and finals, but now I've finally got some time for Dreamscape.
Made a new mechanic that bounces the player like a pinball, allowing them to gain ridiculous speed and height. Just test art for now, though.

ChaosKid@chaoskid1024· Mar 24 Making a thumbnail tool for that devlog channel I'm setting up.

ChaosKid@chaoskid1024· Mar 18 Working on another boss fight. Some readability work to do, I think, but other than that, it's been coming along nicely.

ChaosKid@chaoskid1024· Mar 15 ...right! Keep on forgetting to record audio. They make a cool sound too!

ChaosKid@chaoskid1024· Mar 15 Found some time this week to work on Dreamscape. I think I've basically finished all the level design for this zone. Some art's still a little janky but, hey, good progress anyway!

ChaosKid@chaoskid1024· Feb 9 Light beams! These were pretty interesting to implement!
Recording has some screen tearing for some reason but, eh, it is what it is.

ChaosKid@chaoskid1024· Feb 6 Been trying to get backgrounds done but haven't had much time due to a rather busy semester. So things have been, and might continue to be, slow. In the meantime, here's one of the backgrounds I've been experimenting with.

ChaosKid@chaoskid1024· Jan 10 Continued work on the ocean effect. Still entirely Polygon2Ds. Figured out some simple lighting using cross products, and implemented finer control over color as well.

ChaosKid@chaoskid1024· Jan 8 Wanted to share this weird little effect I've begun making for a water-themed zone. No actual 3D is being used, it's all just triangular Polygon2Ds and code.
Now I just need to polish it, and get it to loop as the camera moves.

ChaosKid@chaoskid1024· Jan 5 Darkness using both Godot's built-in Light2D for shadows and a custom shader for obscuring the level in the foreground. It's a little janky, but I think it works. Desert temples just make me think of darkness for some reason.

ChaosKid@chaoskid1024· Dec 20 Experimenting with a new ground pound behavior which makes it similar to the uppercut (but in the opposite direction). It is a good thing this is not purely a combat-oriented game because these two abilities are ridiculously overpowered against flying enemies now.

ChaosKid@chaoskid1024· Dec 19 Testing a new mechanic and enemy for the sugarland zone. Very satisfying to watch! Probably going to want to change the spritework for one of these tilesets though.

ChaosKid@chaoskid1024· Dec 4 Wanted to share this cute little room from the forest area. These bonsai trees serve as checkpoints, and if April idles by them for long enough, she'll hop up and sit on them.

ChaosKid@chaoskid1024· Nov 29 Player script has almost three thousand lines of code now. Combined with everything else, I've probably at least reached five thousand at this point.

ChaosKid@chaoskid1024· Nov 29 Very close to being able to put together a demo for Dreamscape, a chunky pixel art metroidvania I've been working on since the start of this year. It'll have 3 explorable zones, 3 abilities to collect, and a boss fight, all set to a chipfusion, vaporwave influenced soundtrack.

ChaosKid@chaoskid1024· Nov 10 Probably one of the more involved backgrounds I've done for this game. I have a timelapse of making it that I might post on YouTube later as well.

ChaosKid@chaoskid1024· Oct 22 Did some animation and sound effects for this weird crystal thingy that takes you to new worlds. Still has a couple issues for now, but it's coming along nicely I think.
