Minneapolis and St. Paul both get mentioned in here. Minneapolis had slower growth, while St. Paul’s population actually declined. Also really stark how closely Minneapolis growth track with Chicago, which would lead you to believe they’re both following bigger trends.
Interesting data from Brookings - after a few years of post-pandemic growth, most big cities in the U.S. saw their growth slow down or go negative last year. www.brookings.edu/articles/big...
Pretty amazing how well you can see the tv markets on the map. The margin in the primary was pretty stunning given the spending gap, even more so when you look at this and see that it looks like the $$ helped in some places.
Pretty great that General Sports Bar looks like they’re going to bring back the skate sharpening the area lost when General Sports died. Finally an option west of Flanders Bros, which is excellent but not enough for an area this big!
This essay about how hyper-politicization is eating the world around us is one of the best things I’ve read this year: www.nplusonemag.com/online-only/...
Can anyone tell me the name of the band playing a backyard show on the 2500 block of Aldrich? Because they absolutely ripped it.
Shout out to the upper deck at Target Center, standing and LOUD all fourth quarter. Really brought it. Wolves in 7.
An absolute titan of a dead fish in Cedar Lake, rest in power Bottom of the Lake King.
Two years ago I read this book. It made me become obsessed with the semiconductors. There are massive vulnerabilities with every piece of electronics, phones, laptops, cars, everything we use for cyber or national security, etc that we have a weak domestic supply chain for.
Loved this piece about Mount Olivet’s plans for a coffee shop and brewery, the mechanics of how a thing like that would work, and this beautiful quote tucked at the end. tcbmag.com/church-to-br...
Harrison is the most underrated neighborhood in Minneapolis. Getting a brand new spa, already features Animales, Utepils, Milda’s, and a gateway into Wirth Park. A total gem.
I’ve been curious about the business of Minnesota’s summer resorts. When do you fix up a cabin? How do you hire 90 people for the summer? What happens in the winter? I sat down with Abby Oxborough, co-owner of Sugar Lake Lodge outside Grand Rapids, MN. This is what Sugar Lake looks like:
I believe in this man. One of these years is going to be his year. Why not this one?
Very cool idea that’s near and dear to my heart - take this survey to help bring an indoor playground to downtown Minneapolis: mplsindoorplaygroundsurvey.netlify.app
Company Bar is such a great spot. The kept the Petit Leon burger, which means they have the best burger in Minneapolis. Elite cocktails. They crushed it.
Heads up - the Hennepin/94 interchange areas is a nightmare because a bus crashed and closed off the whole street.
You’ve really got to read this piece by Justine Jones. mspmag.com/eat-and-drin...
