The attack on the boat is so intense. Mitchum dripping swamp water in the bit where he crushes an egg & it splashes all over her. She fr flinches. Mitchum is so underrated. He manages to be pure evil but much subtler than DeNiro's. Top tier eye acting as he contemplates his victims

Robert Mitchum was chilling in this. He becomes a kind of swamp creature, as he slips in and out of the water in pursuit. This film is like 90 minutes of Robert Mitchum prowling shirtless The chase in the reeds is v cool. Civilised vs barbaric Scorsese's one dials up the seduction of the daughter.

Oof. That chase through the school was pretty tense. But also the girl's mother is DRESSED in every scene.

Love that Lillian Gish the OG silent film star is in this being badass She still has the best eyes.

I feel like this film has influenced lots of things. This shot and whole sequence reminds me of Pony Boy and Johnny hiding in the countryside in Coppola's The Outsiders.
